Disco 2 Hard breaking on the motorway

Just got back from Plymouth, which was a 220 mile drive. Disco drove superbly. We were collecting my son and all of his clobber from University. All fitted in the back of the Disco, with 4 of us in the car. Due to late night, early morning I drove the first part, but, was too tired to carry on. My wife very kindly took over. All going well until break lights suddenly came on up ahead. My wife applied the breaks hard and the Disco started to snake across the carriageway. She held it nicely, but not a wonderful experience. When I apply the breaks lightly, no problem. I rarely have to apply hard. On this occasion, it was a concern. The back end was heavy and I wonder if this played a large part in this. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sometimes when driving my disco, it's down to my usual "predictive" light braking being in the high disco I can see was happening a mile ahead, it's a bit different in my normal car on a motorway when approaching at high speed usually on the outside lane of course, loads of hard braking
When I use the disco brakes a bit harder a few times then I don't have any issue so that's what I do, saying that uneven braking is possibly a mechanical fault, so it maybe better for u to get someone to check your vehicles breaking system considering that the issue was a surprise .

+1... you might have a sticking caliper(or more) also check the tyre pressure to be even per axle and as close to std as possible

Totally agree about light breaking. The high position allows for excellent vision and hence light braking. I've just taken it out for a test down a quiet road and applied the brake hard. The Disco is definitely pulling to the left.

Have you checked the tyre pressures recently?

You most likely have some severely worn suspension bushes which is allowing the axle to twist on heavy breaking.

+1 better fix the vehicle to behave normally under any kind of braking than rely on light braking all the time

calipers id think, slides and piston can seize,new discs and pad all round once you know calipers are ok

Tyre pressures are fine and I recently had new bushes all round. Front calipers, discs and pads were replaced last year. I think the issue may well be with the back ones. Will check at the weekend.

Check that the hubs aren't leaking grease onto the brake pads. That was the issue with mine.
