Hi Guys..

good to be back .. since I was las here I purchased a disco 4 for my wife (for some reason she doesn't like defenders ?) .. few issues with the turbo we had fixed however 3 days later the water pump fell off .. I would like to think is wasn't anything untoward that the garage had done as they are great for my defender.. a local garage (friend) had everything out and the bolts had snapped on the pump .. so before we put it all back together my question actually is are there any good strong bolts I can replace them with or should I stick to the LR ones that apparently do snap easily ???

kindest

On the d3 it was quite common when doing the cambelt to accidentally loosen the water pump bolts, not notice and put it all back together, then some time after the pump would fall off, and people would say the bolts were faulty.
2.7 and 3.0 are much the same, just saying!

I don't know the D3/4 so just asking.
How in heck is it possible to "accidentally" loosen that many bolts?
Is it l;ike the D2 and holding other stuff on as well?

???????
He's asking about what bolts to use to put it back in again!
Are you talking about the whole car?
lol .. no.. just for the pump there has been a few issues regarding the pump falling off due to the LR bolts eroding .. I was hoping someone would know about them as its a bugger to get to if this happened again,.

Not knowing the car at all, are there any stainless bolts that would fit? I'm sure there are, as that would stop them eroding, or maybe something as simple as coating them with grease before putting em in! It's not as if being high tensile or not is abig issue here.
Guessing mind, on that last point.

yea stainless would seem the best way .. we had to get the thread doctor booked in as its actually impossible to get the end bits out so im guessing he will know his stuff lol

You are sort of working blind so it is easy to loosen at least one of the water pump bolts by mistake.
Only held in with three bolts, not sure if M6 or M8.

Only 3!? The D2 with 6 has it beat hands down then.
Three spindly cast legs with said three bolts in, though to be fair quite a few truck ones are only held on with three or four bolts, the cummins 5.9/6.7 is just two M8 bolts, never seen one of them fall off.

I reckon the whole bolts corroding/coming loose is just an old wives tale.

yea the new garage said its too odd that the turbo had been done and wondered if they had maybe tightened them by mistake .. I would think it wasn't deliberate though .. maybe trying to be helpful then ... woopsadaisy lol
