handbrake adjustment

Where is the transmission drum located?

Mine only holds on last click so adjustment is needed

in front of the rear prop.

Square nut on the rear (T-box side) of drum ...

Tighten until it just starts to bind, you can feel this by rotating the drum by hand, then back off 1/4 of a turn till it turns freely...

300tdi you are better with 17mm socket ,adjust shoes then cable

Oh, it's a 300 -

Firstly chock a wheel and lift one from the ground (not the chocked one)

Next, loosen the cable adjuster located under the centre console to give the cable some free play (black nylon nut which the cable passes through).

Adjust the shoes with the 17mm bolt, as previously said ...

Back under the centre console to the cable adjuster, tighten until hand brake travel is around three clicks...

In cab, remove the two screws under the 'mat' in front of the high/low range selector, remove the high/low and standard gear change knobs and gaiters, remove the electric window switch panel... and the screws in the 'cubby box'...

Unclip the gaiter for the handbrake, you'll see the pivot pin and it's circlip, remove circlip, pull the pin out that connects the handbrake lever to the cable, then you can lift the handbrake lever up enough to get the console over it...

What is the problem then? as long as the brake holds and releases ok.

Is it you just like more clicks to engage the shoes, my old RR had only one click the time I had it, my disco has three clicks neither have been a problem for me and never has the discos cable been or required adjusting.

youve been lucky then because nearly every disco i come across needs adjusting

That's all right then, I didn't think for a moment I was the only one.

Well it holds but lever is vertical so Def needs adjustment. Why does it need to be jacked on one wheel

So you do have an issue with the cable, the clicks would normally start just up from the hand brake off position and no jacking up of the vehicle is required just roll under, easy with your 'lifted disco'.

That the old reason said about lifting is to get under it. Fair enough.
