Got a choice of engines when I chuck the V8 on the scrap, so what is it to be.

Mind is nearly made up and I know you lot dont like slitty engines so pointless askin really but nowt else to do at the mo whilst waitin to go and see the Disco engine.

Defender 110.
Could put 2.8 TD Isuzu with lt85 and disco transfer box ....cost approx 400 quid plus bits and bobs.
that includes conversion kit to lt85

Could go 300 tdi engine and both boxes straight from Disco ....cost approx 400 quid plus bits and bobs.

Interesting dilema me thinks.;)

300 tdi, the izuzu is not a bad engine but the 300tdi outperforms in all ways , from my experience of Holden Rodeos in OZ (same thing different badge ) .
Its going to be better for parts as well as you can use off the shelf items as 110 were built with 300tdi as standard I believe :D

go for the 300- i have one and its great.

nice an easy to get parts for, an i made a profit doing my conversion.

Isuzus dont need parts:p

300 tdi is gointa be favourite at the mo as it can be put in as is with the boxes atc, I'll work somethin out with tha levers as the tunnel is ****ed anyway.

Can't get hold of one of those, I'm lookin at 300 tdi

What's the difference anyway 200, 300 and TD5

The 200TDi is Land Rover's first Direct Injection diesel engine, introduced in 1990 (is that right!?) and it was regarded as a revelation in the Land Rover world! The block is essentially the same as the older 2.5 N/A diesel which is closely based on their original 1950's diesel engine design which Land Rover used in older series models. The major difference is in the head. the 200TDi has an Aluminium head without pre-combustion chambers which means that the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder which improves power and performance. Land Rover produced two slightly different models of the 200TDi engine, one for the Defender, one for the Discovery.

The 300TDi engine is supposedly the 200TDi's big brother but many still favour the 200 over the 300. Later 300TDi's had a 'fly by wire' throttle and an ECU to help adjust the fuelling in order to meet emissions requirements. Land Rover also standardised the design of the engine, so what you find in a Defender is exactly the same as what you'd find in a Discovery.

The TD5 is then the next step on from the 300TDi. It has five cylinders and a **** load of computery bollocks to govern the fuel injection and what not. They're good engines, very quick but also expensive to 'reset' when the ECU decides to play silly buggers.

Now they're onto the Ford Puma which is basically a Tranny engine for Trannies.

I'm slowly gettin hooked on this 300 tdi.....anyone want to purchase a Zoo Zoo 2.8 turbo motor ? :)

edit..... it's a basic overhead valve pushrod engine with just a wire to the fuel solenoid so nowt ta get wet when you forgin deep water an it goes like fook.
