alright,

Ive been rebuilding my S3 for a while now (theres a post on here somewhere from about 2/3 years ago). Anyway, the time has come for me to either paint or do something with the chassis.

When i bought my S3 it was advertised with "galvensied chassis". When i got it home and started stripping it down, the appartent "mud" on the chassis would not come off, and as so, i have had to wire brush the brown tinge off. Can anyone tell me what this brown tinge is? surly it cant be rust?!?!, there is signs of the galv pattern on the chassis, when mounting brackets have been un bolted.

Also, what primer would i need to base the chassis in before painting?? as i dont really want to leave it in the condition it is in now, incase i have wire brushed off the galv coating in some areas.

thanks

galv chassis can be painted but it will come off eventually ,as well as coating steel galv acts as sacrificial anode same principle as bolting zinc anode to steel boat hulls ,i painted mine and white powder builds up behind pain eventually making paint come off and galv looking manky but left eventually fall away and leave fresh galv if you leave it it will just look as galv should if you paint it it wont hurt it but theres nothing you can do to stop it coming off eventually if using it it ,matt or satin black would be better than gloss as more breathable its impossible to keep chassis dry
