I know how to fit the bearings its what torque to tighten the nut too, on to the lock washer. only seen guides where there is two of each, lock washers and nuts
Why are you asking about inner and outer races then? And 'what's the chrome ring for'

Just stripped a 90 front hub to get that ball off and this is the sequence of the nuts and washers , Photo from top to bottom 2 washers and 2 nuts. Second photo is what was in mine only 1 washer and 1 nut.

First pic is correct.
Wonder what they were thinking when they built it back up.
Anyway brings me back to my next Question. One of my Balls is shot so thought Id get one off a 90 hub I had lying around to save me some money buying new one. Got 2 Good Nick ones now but the one I took off the 90 today is much thicker then the one from my 110.
Can I use both these or will I have to buy the same.??

good used parts are a big part of my work
That ball has been lying round on the hub in my yard for a couple of years now, moved from shed to shed, Glad no one came and asked me for one coz I would have let it go.
Got some other bits and bobs to, Like to hold on to them, if your stuck for a part you never know I might just have it here.

Looks like someone has been tightening those nuts with a chisel, a few pictures back. Always use the correct tool for the job, eh? New ones aren't very dear fortunately. In fact I think last time I bought a hub bearing kit for an axle of that vintage it came with some, as well as some odd shaped felt washers that didn't seem to fit anywhere. If needs must however, it's worth filing the burs off secondhand hub nuts so they apply pressure all the way round not just on the high spots.

I've not seen as many balls as James (said he without a trace of innuendo) but in my experience the thinner ones are genuine and the thicker ones are Britpart specials made of really crumbly metal with bits of coke embedded in it.

Interesting to know, Here's me thinking that the thicker one was better quality, would not have thought it was Britpart. when my truck suddenly collapses on one side I ll know its the side with the thick ball on :D
That's if I ever get it rebuilt :)[/QUOTE]
