Started to strip down front Hubs for rebuild, On both sides there was only one swivel bearing, on one side of ball, should there be two top and bottom ? also there was only one washer and one nut which was only finger tight holding hub on both sides, No Locking washer or second nut 52 mil ones.
Is this Right or something missing ??
Also are these balls OK Or would they need replacing only slight pitting on one of them other is perfect.

Thanks Kevin

Sounds like early type like mine with roller bearing in the bottom and railco bush in the top.
Should be 2 nuts with lock washer between.

Depending on age I think the swivel balls had different bush/bearing arrangements. Hopefully, someone with more experience will chip in.
My hubs have two nuts and a locking washer. I would have thought very dangerous without.
That's not what I would call slight pitting

Its a 1987 110 C S W, there was only 1 nut with 1 flat washer both sides, nuts were only finger tight. will have to make sure I order the right parts:confused:

Early type then, new nuts and lockwashers are cheap. CV overhaul kit(new bearing, bush, seals, gasket, shims, top pin) only £20 odd quid a side, new ball £80?

Check wheel bearings. If crap use
Timkin. You may as well do these at the same time.then you won't have to do the front end for a few years

Aye, I wouldn't be putting that back on. :( Look for the kits that Hicap Phill mentioned. It's cheaper and easier to get them that way, rather than trying to spec part numbers for all the bits. Let someone like Paddocks do that for you.

Wheel bearings Do look OK but like you say might aswell change everything while its out on the bench.
Have to wait till I get back to work and make some money :)

Will ring Paddocks up when I'm ready rather just order online from there site to make sure I get the right parts. Paddocks are Good

Chat to paddocks get all the numbers & what's in the kits.
(I think)
Swivel
Gaskets
Seals
Grease
Top/bottom pins
Some shims

No wheel bearing/nuts/ lock rings

When I last spoke to the previous owner a while back that had started it, he said all he done to the front axle was put brand new discs on, as he thought it looked OK, Good job I stripped down and checked.
Anyway when he has put the discs on they have just sat for a few years and rusted in photo, Are they still usable ? if so whats the best thing to clean them back up again to look new ??

Thank You Very Much James Really Helpful , Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't need the balls but they need done so will have to get them.
Thanks Again

Get the black teflon balls. You don't notice the chrome falling off ;)
You can get a swivel gator but that would be nearly another £100 for the pair.
