Bloody hell have I had a scare.
Went out for a quick spin, got 100yds up the road engine started reving it nuts off.
Turned it off but still reving for the next 50-60 seconds. It must have been running off the oil in the pipes work.
It turns out the waste gate had stuck shut. Got back home & the oil pressure light started to flash again. I'll do a pressure test tomorrow & I think I'll keep an eye out for a new engine (just to put in the shed cos you never know).

so it looks like just me and jon out tomorrow, geof are you still up for it?
any body else up for it? should be nice and muddy with all this rain we are having:D
shall we meet at the usual place mcd's braintree?

I am seriously thinking of stripping my disco now as there are a few bits I want and theres enough stuff on there to make good money so may have a steering box for you...

On a side note, had a big **** up last night, part of my wiring loom touched on the exhaust manifold and melted which inturn burnt the whole engine loom out :( I have just finished rewiring it all so hopefully wont be too bad...

Whos up for laning tomorrow then? Was thinking braintree early afternoon time? Be good to hit some fords with this rain as well...

Wastegate being shut would have increased turbo pressure and maybe forced some oil into the intake, have a check in all the pipes. If it didnt over rev it should be fine, just clean it all out... as for the pressure light, I would try a switch first and see if that stops the light, worth the £7 over stripping it down...

It had some oil in the pipes I took off, so must have been most more some where else.
I've already changed the pressure switch & did an oil change, so I know it's not that. The light is only just coming on & only when it's warm. Will do a pressure test tomorrow but I think it could be on it's way out.

for a short term fix go up to a thicker oil, 20/50, its what I do with old VW's...

Well i just drove mine home, i may still have further issues, the temp gauge is sitting up at the top of the white, im guessing it should be in the middle... Bloody landrovers are ****ing me off now!

Yeah im up for it, im looking on MM now, i am proper paranoid about my front diff tho, its got a heavy dent in it and could split if i hit it:eek: it pops out of first, and the transfer box is leaking but its not to bad, oh and theres loads of backlash in the drivetrain but im happy with that, might end up with a rear locker and lsd front;)

What time? Braintree for about 1:30ish?

thats good with me, do a couple of hours laninng just enough to ease your fender into it, i wouldnt worry to much about the backlash mine was a right old clonker when i got it still never broke though, i ended up putting disco front and rear axles on disco tranny, recon gearbox and new input gear all nice and tight now

Thats what i think i will be doing, if i break my disco then all i need is the gearbox, my disco is real nice to drive, the drivetrain is all in good condition as i have rebuilt it all pretty much, gonna adjust the diffs and fit new seal, will be like new soon hopefully

Sorry fellas not me just popped out and got a knocking from the steering somewhere, will jack it up tomorrow and have a look, if I can sort it will meet up with you.

Just jacked it up and there is play on the drivers wheel, so i guess its the wheel bearings, if the weathers decent tomorrow will strip it and replace them.

Not an option on the td5 they have to be replaced and torqued up.Unless someone knows different?

You could try un staking the nut first and re torquing it just in case it came loose.

short of that its new bearings, if its worn fast with no sign of water/ dirt ingress then maybe the spacer is out of tolerance, you can get this but must measure the end float to get correct.

or you can change to 300tdi stuff without having to change stub axle and have adjustable serviceable bearings, not 100% sure if its the 300tdi locking tab that can fit? but the nuts are definitely the same.

def td5 bearings are the same as 300 and previous they just use one staked nut and selectable spacer to tighten against instead of 2 locking nuts and no spacer torque setting doesnt mean anything as long as tight if loose probably is worn brgs

Just going by the manual. So I have got Timken bearings and corteco and karson seals .can I just use old washers ( td5 are different to tdi ) and replace bearings/seals or is it better to use the tdi set up using lock nut.
