I love my P38 but boy they are a labour of love when they go wrong, having just had the EAS system overhauled and running sweetly for a month the engine has now disabled itself.

Can anyone advise on the below problem

Engine has disabled itself, the keyfob lights are working but will not open the central locking there was no message on the display to indicate low battery so i am assuming the batteries and the switches on the lock unlock buttons on the keyfob are ok.

If i open the door manually with the key it will only open the drivers door not the full central locking then trying to start the engine i get the dreaded engine disabled warning, pushing the keyfob buttons does nothing so i have tried the EKA code on the door lock this does not work still getting the engine diasbled warning.

Can anyone advise, no spare key to try this failed a year or so back and had to get towed. Do you think it is the electronics in the key that have failed? If so can anyone advise someone to repair the key.

Thanks All

If you lock the car with the fob then open it with key you will always get "Engine disabled" message. Needs EKA code entering properly.

Could be the microswithes in the lock pack making it unable to enter the eka.
Anyone near you with nanocom? If so, it can be entered with that to get you going again.

Correct, if the key only opens the drivers door the CDL switch is faulty.

Here is a test sheet for the locks that Martyuk put together it should tell you what is wrong with the lock
if you put your location up in your profile there may be some one near that can help.

Only the drivers door will open if it's been locked with the fob and then unlocked with the key in the door until the EKA has been entered sucessfully.

I'd start by checking the door latch microswitches with my test sheet that Brian attached. That will tell you if the drivers latch is working properly and if so then you *should* be able to enter the EKA.
What year P38 do you have? older ones just started with the EKA being entered with the first turn to unlock. Everything from around '96 or '97MY onwards needs the 4x turns to lock before you start the first digit.

If the latch is OK and you can enter the EKA, then as you are doing the turns in the door latch have a look at the instrument cluster, as the sidelight telltale will flash once for every accepted turn of the key and you can use this to count the number of turns it's recognised.

The remote key might be working fine - but whilst the vehicle is in a state where it is expecting the EKA, you won't be able to resync the remote. Once you get the EKA entered, all the doors unlocked etc, then you can re-sync the key, and the remote will probably work again.

If you have a P38 with BECM PAM V36 or later then you can enter the EKA and disarm the vehicle via the OBD port with Nanocom or similar diagnostics. The easy way to find this out is it's on the sticker which is on top of the BECM fuse box.. should be a P.Vxx

Also as Brian says - put your location in your profile as if there's someone near with diagnostics and you have a later P38, then it only takes a couple of minutes to disarm with diagnostics and get you back running again (I'd still check the door latch switched though!)
