Egr Valve

blocked my egr valve off i can't believe the difference its like driving a differenr motor

all i did was disconnect the pipe put a little bolt in the rubber pipe end saves buying a blanking plate.

amazing what clean fresh cold dense air does to an engine?
(full of oxygen eh?)

Can you tell me a little bit more about the EGR, I know it's a return of the gases of some sort, but what is is good for? Can you explain more on how you blank it out? Is there any ill effect that can happen.

I have a 300tdi and someone mentioned it to me previously but I thought not to. Will it increase power at different levels such as take off? What about fuel economy?

Best bet Tim is to search for 'EGR' in this forum and see the recent posts, some going into more detail than others - will give you many opinions of theory and benefit, mostly advocating the blanking/removal of said gadget.

its basically there for emissions reasons. take it off and see the landy fly.
lots of peeps say its like a different engine.

i did mine 2 weks ago doesnt seem to be using more fuel but seems and feels more qiucker when accelerating through the gears

I would suggest that those people finding 'massive' improvements probably had a faulty EGR valve (common problem), in so far as it probably was gummed up and not shutting fully when connected, as it should be closed from approx 1000 rpm and upwards under acceleration anyway. (possibly re-opening at about 2600rpm(unconfirmed) for a bit)

I take it I need to blank off the pipe that leaves the EGR and goes into the air intake? Will this effect the emissions test during MOT?

I have the 300tdi, but a friend has the TD5 will this mod give him some more vroom also? We are trying to find ways to get his engine running better, won't pull the skin off rice pudding.

Unless the Egr valve is stuck open,removing a correctly functioning Egr valve will make no difference to a Td5's performance.A stuck open wastegate or delaminated boost pipe are the first 2 things that I would look for in a flat Td5.
