Just purchased another Discovery off a friend of mine.... 1999 R-Reg 300tdi ES???

Log book says Date of registration at New 08/01/1999 Yet its on an R Plate and is a 300tdi

Thought R was upto August '98?

Just wondered if anyone in the know, knows why?

All the numbers match up, chassis numbers even the glass matches up

Could it be that on an S they changed to the TD5 and this might have been a left over 300tdi? But 6 months is a long time to be "left over" and why plate it on a R??

Any ideas

Could have been a pre-registered one that didn't sell quickly ...

D1's were in the showrooms for a few months after the launch of the D2.
So registered in Jan 1999 and given a private plate, diplomatic plate or even no plate as in Royals then the vehicle was sold on and then given a maufactured "age related" plate, not registration date related, so thats how you get an R as D1's were not manufactured after Aug 1998, the start of S plates and the intro of the D2.

Intresting, who were the former Keeper/s ?

That does sounds good value on the face of it - even for me !!!

The DVLA work in mysterious ways. When I purchased my 1996 jap reimport in December 2004 the importer reckoned I would have a "P" plate. No way said the DVLA, they used the actual build date 25/07/96 and issued an "N"plate. Only one week before the P plate. If it had sat on a UK court for a few weeks it would more than likely have had a "P" plate . I think you are lucky to have an "S" plate on your Disco,so keep motoring for many happy miles.

Cheers
