£10500 for those that were asking !
I had an R reg 1998 90 county Defender -rioja red/maroon.
Its a second vehicle but regularly used several days a week. After an injury I cant use it as much as Id like to though.
Starts, drives & stops just as a Defender should. Been used & proven reliable as a daily driver until recently including fairly regular long journeys on weekends.
Its a working vehicle, not a showroom example BUT could be a very easy project for someone with no welding needed. It needs a rear door and repainting to get it to a great standard!
M.O.T until 4/6/2022
Miles 232500 on clock
At 230k I fitted a replacement engine bought with 120k miles on it and it was worth every penny. Have details.
Had a blacksheep crossmember welded on by Clive (Pressbreak) early on when purchased-the best available.
I had it waxoyled professionally when I got it but not redone for a couple of years. No major rust
No welds to chassis (barring replacement crossmember), no patching etc
No corrosion to bulkhead
Heavy duty towbar attached and towbar electrics but you need to attach connectors as I dont tow. Rear step added (bent when reversing), easily removed.
It’s a very reliable, and strong motor. It’s in standard trim, no boost pin, turbo modifications. It had major service and a lot of parts replaced in Nov 20 before I went abroad with work..
At the same time I had a lot of other work completed, and many receipts.
Over the 7 years Ive owned it-mainly in last 2 years Ive fitted, in no particular order :
New heated windscreen
New Tayna battery 800+ CCA
Replacement alternator
Rear spotlight and switch panel - other switch for windscreen, fitted by Challenger 4x4 and had their electrician overhaul the electrics
New Mud interior red/white light
New Mud interior tray at gears
BFG A/Ts x5 on Upgraded steels
Heavy duty tracking rod
New viscous fan
New belts
New radiator
New coolant pump
New slave cylinder
New pipes
New heater matrix
New bonnet release cable
New coolant reservoir
New exhaust
New front bumper
Fitted ply wood panels in rear sides
New discs, pads, full set
Caliper assays FRH/FLH
Steering damper
Swivel kit
Lever steering RHS
Full poly bush kit
Brake pipe replaced-nickel
New bushings and suspension rods
New outrigger
Fitted a DAB radio and aerial
Chequerplate in black full kit except bonnet, the usual places but not hiding areas-see photos
No major rust
No welds to chassis
No corrosion to bulkhead
Sunroof doesnt leak
Bulkhead vents functional.
Front seat belts functional - driver belt is very slightly frayed but passed MOT
Heater works after much effort!
It’s a very reliable, and strong motor. There is no boost pin, turbo or similar modifications
Surface rust and corrosion in places and dirt are there -its 23 years old. Theres been no welding except to add the crossmember and when cut off the inner metal was solid as a rock. It got several cans of wax sprayed in there.
Exmoor Trim on seats though I also have a plastic seat for muddy daily use
The negatives:
I dont have the time to finish it to the standard it could be at
Needs a new rear door, wiper/electrics work and as does heated screen, the rear door has bad corrosion at bottom.
Needs a full repaint (in my opinion), laquer is gone on roof and elsewhere. I have painted primer over some spots.
The rear quarter panels could ideally be replaced-or covered by chequerplate
Theres a bit of corrosion damage to lower side panels, not hidden by chequer
Front door hinges need to be replaced - functional but paint free...
Aerial for normal radio has collapsed but I dont listen to it so havent bothered - but I fitted a new aerial
Ive had one accident in 7 years I drove it - I was at fault but all I needed to replace was the bumper. The headlight surround is cracked-have replacements, havent got round to it.
Roof lining is tatty but hasnt collapsed
3 owners including myself, new farm vehicle with east anglian hardened mud protecting it from corrosion for a long time... then to farm worker then to me.
Mechanically sound. A great & fairly easy project for someone looking to put their own mark on a 90 300tdi. As projects go it’s an easy one without welding jobs. Or keep it as is for a working vehicle, it will perform.
…open to offers from serious buyers happy to bring to a public location (near me or in surrey) for personal inspection (tbc).
This is a 23 year old vehicle in regular usage, as such mileage will go up slightly before sale. The 90 is MOT'd till May 2022 and can be driven away.
