hi folks i have recentley sold my defender as i need a more suitable family car and was thinking about a discovery .does anyone know of any common major problems with them as i was put off buying an automatic one but after driving one the experience was great and i am hanging on a thread wondering what to do.
any thoughts or words of advice would be much appreciated thanks.

i bought an automatic 300 disco tdies not long ago and i love it, its smooth to and comfy and not too bad on fuel, the only prob with mine is cold starting which im on with.

I recently bought a 300tdi auto and its a wicked little motor, gearbox is smooth and im getting 34-38 mpg on a run and around 28mpg around town. I too have had a few cold start problems but it always starts !!!

It aint the chasis that goes on these buggers, it's the cowing body shell - boot floor, rear wheel arches, door sills, front body hangers, etc, etc. basically any where that mud will get - and it gets everywhere.
Waxoyl, waxoyl and then wax some more.
saying that I love mine to bits

Had two Discovery's no bother at all with cold starting. The boot floor, and the striker plate under the rear door rusted through on one, and the rear door on both became a bother. But I would have another.:)

3.9 and mpg.. erm...

it's lpg and it costs me about 21p per mile.. compare that to my mondeo which costs about 16p per mile so not massively unhappy with it.. need to do a service so that should make a difference, plus I have a heavy right foot on motorways and notice it is much better when I take it gentle

I had the same problem. the wife didn't like the kids sliding around on the bench seats of my 90!!
Went on a 4x4 training day for my birthday and they had Disco's!! I thought they weren't real Land Rovers!! After the day I went straight to my local garage and traded the 90 for a disco. Put a few extras on it and it runs like a dream, and, oh , so comfortable!!

hi thanks for the advice i have bitten the bullet and put deposit down on the disco.....but i noticed when im driving it the rev counter goes off it is fine at idle but when you accelerate the rev counter just drops ....i am not too worried about this as the speedo still works .has anyone come across this problem before
