Buying advice

Hi there

I'm hoping for a bit of advice before buying a Discovery Sport.

I've read horror stories about the Ingenium Engine - thing is - how do I know if the Landy I'm buying has this? I've heard they came to UK models from September 2015 - would this imply 15/65 plates are a safe bet (if there is such a thing!) and say, a 16 plate would have the Ingenium?

It's so confusing!

Ran a vehical check and it's clear - so

I've been looking at them for a while. I reckon if you do mainly short trips, go for petrol as there don't seem to be any significant issues. Apparently the later examples are better, or perhaps too recent for problems to have builtp up. The 2.2 on the first ones seems good but you're into an older vehicle. Seem to be lots of private sales currently, I reckon traders are waiting for more price drops and aren't quoting. There are desperate sellers out there, great time to buy.

Great points! Thanks - so either a 2.2 diesel or a newer petrol? It's such a lottery isn't it! lol Trouble is - there aren't many other cars I like! lol

Must admit I'd like one now that prices are falling. Unfortunately my wife is too practical and can't see why we should replace our ultra cheap to run, and reliable, old Octavia.

To be honest I think the Skoda Kodiaqs are lovely cars and Octavia’s have a good reputation. She’s probably being really sensible!

The freelander 3 is basically a car, it is ok.

Hybrid is good on fuel, but no soul.

No curry hook.

Feels a little cramped inside.

No idea on off road ability as the owner has not tried it.

Handles ok, but rolls more than my Discovery .

Your wife is wise. Life is too short to spend it mucking about on a Land Rover.

I test drove one a few years ago and was very disappointed by the fit and finish of what was meant to be a high end suv. It was quite cramped inside too.

For the money I would probably stick with a more reliable SUV like Audi or Skoda which seem to be very popular in this sector. For about 10 years I had a Q5 and a q7 and if I had the same requirements now that is what I would go for. Never had a mechanical issue. Now I need a bit more ruggedness and was scared of scratching the Audis so have gone from that to owning three LRs (soon to become 2)
