Afternoon!

Looking for some pears of wisdom...

I've recent purchased a 2001 Discovery 2 (manual) which wasn't the cleanest example with various rust issues and the normal D2 issues. Over the weekend I had a couple of jobs I wanted to get done, including a full service, remove the EGR, and remove a stupid "performance chip" which was plugged into the ECU.

The service went fine and I took it for a driver after with no problems. Then later on I removed the performance chip (with the negative terminal disconnected) and replaced the EGR with a straight through pipe.

Now the disco will crank over happily but wont fire... I've put the battery on charge overnight to ensure its getting enough power however it just continually cranks.

I'm wondering if anyone could suggest the best places to start looking, I've tried plugging the chip in again and it's the same with the engine just cranking. I've checked all the fuses and theyook fine (not sure how to check relays).

Any advice would be greatly received!

Thanks
Andy

Try to bump start it and if it starts the problem is with the starter which disturbs the crank signal... can you hear the fuel pump running?

Unfortunately bump starting might be a little difficult it's nose first up a steep drive and I would have no way to get it back up should the bump start not work... Haven't checked the fuel pump but will go out and have a listen shortly!

Thanks,
Andy

Update:

Checked and fuel pump is running. I've re-primed it and there is no change. Turns over well but no sign of starting up.

Any other ideas for things to try?

Andy

Get a multimeter and check this https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/check-td5-fuel-pump-hp.358086/ , if it's ok swap relays R9 with R8, check fuse F24 interior fusebox and F1 engine bay... that's about all i can tell right now...though it should bump start in reverse too if that's the case...eventually start it with spray and if it keeps running after that the problem is the starter or crank sensor/it's wiring(quite common), check it's connector cos it used to get loose

I'll guessing this is the problem...

Sorry, was.measurimg the fuel pump fuse following sierrafery's suggestion and based on his write up it looks like the HP side of the pump isn't working .

I'll get another one ordered and fitted and take it from there!

Thanks for your help! Would have been chasing my tail for weeks!

Fingers crossed the new pump solves it!
Make sure you clean all the crap from around the fuel pipe clips before trying to remove them as they break very easily (paint brush & air line or the cans of compressed air) & they only come with the pipes ! Have a search on here as there's plenty of posts about it. Best of luck.
