Which gearbox are we talking about here, the main 'box or the Transfer box?

Do you means MTF 94, or do you mean EP 80-90 to GL4 standard?

Dave

main gearbox should be fuilled with MTF94:

believe me the R380 box is very "squeamish" when it comes to oil, as i didnt find MTF94 locally i tryed many kind of oils, even Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle which they said is an alternative for MTF 94 but was hard to select 1'st and 2'nd especially when cold, also i used all kind of additives just to make it better... ended up by ordering MTF94 from UK then i was able to select all gears with two fingers even at -20*C ...i kept the other oil for diffs cos it will be good at least for those

IMO that "MTF GL4" is some cheap sh*t generic manual transmission fluid which would be good for trucks and tractors...use the STC9158 (rover mtf 94) if you want soft gearchange

the real issue is not changing oil regularly so lacquer builds up and worn baulk rings ,your expensive oil is just mitigating

MTF GL4 is a 75W90 Valvoline product.

so is the Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle... not good for the R380 IMO... cos MTF94 is 75W80;) ... so maybe that's the reason:confused:

@james...i dunno the reason i just know how it went for me... put MTF94 in it and everything changed...i was quite amazed how just an oil cand make such difference
