Disco 2 Gear select bush etc

I had a shocking drive home with a trailer on Monday when the gearstick (manual) decided to baulk on nearly every gear.....stripped and it is the plastic bush on the link that the lever ball locates in broken and dropped in a bit causing obstructions.
Firstly what is it called so I can locate a new one.
Second is it a push fit or should there be a circlip somewhere?
I was due to change the gearbox oils and all other fluids but I notice the MTF in the gearbox is a bit creamy like it has water....is that normal? condensation in the box perhaps that then emulsifies in the oil. Thanks in advance. It is not a Wading off roader so its not taken water from swimming!

I have answered my own question, found the part and also that it should have a circlip which has evidently dropped into the gearbox......hopefully laying in the bottom causing no issue!

New bush and clip ordered.

Hopefully you find the clip when you drain the gearbox !! Have a good look in there when you change the selector just in case it’s visible from there.

Instead of just draining the oil, why not take the sump off?
It'll give you a chance to clean it and with luck you'll see the circlip (or bits of it) stuck on the magnet.)

(Having an auto I don't know if it has a magnet, but it flipping well should unless they rely on a magnet on the sump plug.

If you don't see it there you could then turn all the gears slowly until you hopefully see it!

looking zt gearbox shape I really think it would just end up in the bottom out the way, I feel sure it must be common anjd there are many in the bottom of gearboxes...the clip can only drop in if that plastic bushing fails!

I should not be surprised as I have to say I have never worked on a manual gearbox that did have one!!!!!!!!!!!

No sump. I know it’s only the bush. My gear change stiffens up on longer journeys and that’s caused by the bush and wear. I’ve not done mine yet, but have watched how it’s done. You can see into the gearing from memory when the old bush is removed, hence why i said to have a look at the point of the strip down for doing the bush !!

You're not the first it's happened to
I never found the missing circlip on mine & it's had a few oil changes since it fell in.
Fortunately it's never caused any problems.
