Hi all after about 2 months left standing my disco won't start. It turns over but no life. 2 things I have noticed though.
1. There appears to be no glow plug illumination on the dash the fuse is okay.
2. The little led light in the dash underneath the stereo is permanently lit.
Any ideas?
Fozzie.
I'm not near home so doing this via my phone lol.

I have no fob, 300tdi m reg. I believe the alarm etc was removed.
Might have been, that was my 98 v8, my other landy. This thing has never not started.
Fozzie.

Does it need you glow plugs to function for starting, some don't, so if not don't worry about that for the moment and check the mechanical side of starting as u may have an issue there.
If your engine was immobilised it wouldn't crank.

Cheers, I can get the led light to do a few things by locking the doors and then reaching through the open window to try and get it to crank which it doesn't. After unlocking the doors, the light flashes like a lunatic etc. I can't say too much about the led light because some times it stays on, some times it goes out etc. I can hear the relay clicking on and off a dozen times if I try and start it when it's still seems to be immobilized. It doesn't make sense. I have tried a different relay to no avail. In a fit of rage ihave ripped out the centre console and there is no spider that I have read up on. No spider no fob seems to be the order of the day. So I am no further forward with this, rain has stopped play for today.

Fozzie.

No spiders in your reg of disco, they arrived in the 1996MY disco with the passive immobilising system, yours is manual with with the optional fob or with a key in the drivers door lock which will operate a micro switch.

If you have had the security system removed then who knows why the LED is still illuminating but if u still have central locking it hasn't been removed.

Relay/S click if you have a failed battery as I'm sure u know.

Hmm, my battery was flat, I was trying to jump start it at the time.

When I get chance I will try a positive supply to the solenoid and will check the glow plug relay as I'm still not getting the glow plug light on the dash board.

Fozzie.

Hi all I have managed to get back to my disco. I have supplied a positive wire straight from the battery to the solenoid and she starts and runs, what does that point to now?
Ta, fozzie.

I had the same problem, I decided it must be a break in the wiring to the solenoid and I did my best to trace it back but did not want to dismantle the dash etc so I never found where, so I wired direct from the glowplug relay supply, to the solenoid. Job done though I would have preferred to find the fault.

Note the relay and fuse in the fuel solenoid circuit on my car were fine, yours also?

The wire to the solenoid comes from the glow plug timer relay (one under the bonnet by the fuse box) doesn't it? I tried to back probe that wire from the relay but I don't seem to get anything. not sure if there is a problem with the relay or the feed to it. I have taken the case off of the relay and physically connected the switch to make the circuit but that still hasn't done anything. As I said before I am not getting any power to my glow plugs either.
I have checked every fuse I could find and they all appear to be correct. I think I have found the right wiring schematic for this circuit in the Haynes manual to try and assist with diagnostics
I am going to run a lead from the negative on the battery to the engine to try and isolate a bad earth.

Any ideas?
Fozzie.
