Detatchable Towbar 90

Hi, I'm looking at buying a detatchable towbar for my 90 as taking the old one off everytime I go off roading is getting tedious! I was looking at the one "Extreme 4x4" do, it seems to be chuffin expensive at £213 for a lump of metal. Has anyone used this one or seen it for sale anywhere else, could do with a few reviews before I part with my hard earned cash.

I made one

before it was fully welded:







2x 17mm bolts and its off not as quick as the pin type damn sight cheaper and stronger for my purpose

where do you go off roading to struggle so much with the tow bar? I drive a 110 and yes my tow bar does dig in occasionally but I've never had it where it prohibits me offroading where I want to even when I was running on super soft rear springs.

I thought towbars have to meet certain standards to be legal and used on the road?
A home made one wont have the correct markings even though we all know it is just as strong as an approved one. You'll be in the ****e with the old bill if anything happens whilst towing and the first thing they will look at is your towbar.

Don't know about that. don't use the ball its only there in case of I need to do somthing. Mabe I reckon I'll use it twice three times a year max.

It'll be handy to have when my uncle puts his boat in the water and get the Rangie stuck I can reverse up and hoof it out. I know Tow points are part of the mot where fitted so its gotta be right.

tis true dat..

the towbar has to have a safe towing limit.how do you know what it is or at what point it will break if ya done it yrself?

when i had a towbar fitted to the outlander the trailer centre asked what i would be towing and the gvw of the trailer i would be pulling,as i wanted detachable i had to have a specific manufacturer as some didnt meet the gvw safe towing capability..

fair play for having a go yrself,but in the event of a accident mr plod will be looking

Just been on guardian4x4's website. The 90 removeable towbar looks pretty meaty. There's no picture so he e-mailed me one. It's a contender for sure.
