As some of you may know, I am living In Vic, Australia at the moment. Went to see this today

1990 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE Private Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au

And it is as close to mint as any 20 year old vehicle Iv ever seen. So I put down a deposit on it.. picking it up at the weekend! :D

Lets hope she proves to be reliable!

The price seems a little on the high side when you compare it to prices over here. But then again $5000.00 Aus is only about £50.00 in real money isn't it. Mielage is good though but think it may have had several new speedo heads. :D:D:D

price is very high if you compare to UK prices, but 2nd hand motors particularly 4x4s are a lot more over here so you cant really compare. Iv looked at a few discos already and this is in a similar price bracket but lower mileage and MUCH better nick than them.

I know what you mean about the speedo heads but the whole vehicle and engine seem really clean and in good nick, so Iv no reason to suspect it to be tampered with.

Aren't the prices high because they include insurance or something?

I remember a friend brought an Autotrader equivalent back with them from Oz. Prices were unbelievably high for everything no matter how rough.

Prices are high mainly because cars seem to last a lot longer due to lack of rust etc. And also there is no MOT equivalent, the closest thing is the Road Worthy Certificate which you need to get to re-register the vehicle upon change of ownership. But once you have that, you can just drive the car into the ground for the next 10 years if you want!

The Registration, which is effectively your road tax, is quite a lot ( I think about $600 for a year for this Rangie) but includes third party personal injury cover, which is the minimum cover required. But if you hit someone it doesn't cover their vehicle, only themselves.

Fuel at the mo is about $1.30 a litre, so roughly the same figure as UK prices I believe? Except in dollars rather than pounds!

We are paying £1.20 per litre that's $1.98 Aus. If your paying $1.30 that's 78.5 pence British so you pay a lot less than us. Lucky buggers.

yea, but we gotta lot further to drive over here,
and well, something has to offset the initial costs of import duty and shipping it here.:D:D

Ours comes ashore in a pipe, we are floating on it. Just the rip off Britain syndrome, we get ripped off for everything. Why anybody ever thought that deporting anyone to Australia was punishment totally defeats me.

it is paradise these days alright, but it would have been a very inhospitable place in the late 1700's to mid 1800's.

Take your point but the British government were still sending orphaned kids there in the 1960's. Some used as slave labour, some to genuine people and some as sex toys for deviant diggers apparently. Great world we live in ain't it?
