Hi guys.

I'll soon be building up a new Tophat Thor engine for my D2. It'll be built with 4.6 crank and rods, along with 4.0ltr pistons to raise the compression as I'm on LPG.

Currently looking at "high-torque" cams and deciding whether to go with the Kent cam from Turner or the Piper one from RPi.

Anyone got any input?

Kent H180 is superb with auto box - we have fitted loads of them and have never had any complaints - just make sure you set the pre-load on the rocker arms correctly - Turners supply the shims and a not on how to do it - you will have to make a little gauge with some welding wire.

Piper torque max we have used - didn't find it as good at low revs
I think it is more akin to a Kent H200, which gives slightly better power but not quite as much wallop off idle.

Make sure you send your Thor ECU off to Mark Adams as well - he will map it to your economy/power requirements - but remember to tell him it is a 4.6 with H180 and he will make sure it gets enough fuel.

We had a bog standard 4.0 D2 done for towing and it transformed the car.
Mark explained to me that they deliberately detuned the D2 to ensure it was slower than a 4.0 P38 - he gets rid of all those restrictions.

If your willing to do some light head work, the "Stump Puller" from Real Steel is very hard to beat in a 4x4 application.
Oh and don't go near RPI.....

Thanks guys. Looks like it'll be the kent cam then. :)

Yes, my ECU will be going to Mark Adams for the 4.6 map. Although his website is s**t and I haven't had an email back from him yet

With regards to Rpi, see my comments in the other thread I started in this section. Just thought I'd get opinions on the piper cam itself.

yep real steel only for older engines..which is a shame i agree.!

hows Mr griiffman???
