:D del boy for dizzys!

cap looks a bit shot though but as you say is probably better than buying anew one that doesnt work :D

i currently run "genuine" items, the cap is black but the rotor arm is very similar if not the same as these, may even say lucas on it! cap certainly doesnt but seems to do a grand job...

anyway, its nice to have something here i can compare with in future...

hows it running then sam a couple of weeks in ?:)

perfectly mate i'd say, water leak has fixed itself, not leaking oil, starts and runs without a single hitch, it's louder and crisper than the old motor with plenty more power (and thats without opening it up yet either), overall i'm very pleased.

only problem is gearbox is now leaking from input shaft, hopefully not too much, it did it last time we took box out but healed itself soon after, hopefully this will self fix also but i dont think it will.

will just have to keep it topped up

thanks jim, will have to see you soon pal :)

no worrys sam. it is a landrover , just when you think your on top of things ,something else needs looking at :)

lol, try some auto trans stop leak :p

I had a leak on the lt95 (who doesnt) which is running 20w50 - I tell a lie its the overdrive and transferbox that leak but its all in one on that box. anyway I tried gearbox stopleak that didnt work and judging by the smell of it it was designed for hypoid oil anyway.

so thinking outside the box with the 20w50 I bought a can of wyns engine stopleak and put that in and it worked a treat, its only the odd drip now instead of 500ml a week lol

Hi fett

Thanks for the advice pal, good idea, I will give it a try because it's overdue a change anyway!

And Jai, hmmm, OBVIOUSLY they don't say that on the packet because otherwise I wouldn't have bought it :D but I wonder why Ashcroft say that? I haven't noticed any adverse effects, smoother shift for sure, although in fairness thinking about it it probably did make 2nd synchro worse (friction modifiers)

Anyway, next fill just plain ATF plus AT or power steering stop leak!!

I'm gathering parts for my rebuild and have a few questions for Sam/others.
First Sam, your using the Steel timing gears/chain.. I've read some combinations of chain/gears can cause too tight or too slack chains... what's yours like?
Second, the adjustable timing gears which allow the last bit of adjustment to get that half a tooth out thing sorted... is it worth it? Will it make a difference?

Hi dude

urm, i'd say mine felt 'just right'

it's the first one i have felt however, but it was tight with about 5mm of play side to side in the chain...

also, i didnt have half a tooth out, the gears aligned spot on with the timing marks, which was handy...

cheers :)

Hmm, that sounds spot on,
have you got a part number for the em?

Much obliged

that stuff is highly rated by the trooper community mate, normally for slipping cure than leaks as the trooper boxes tend not to leak lol
