Tell me about it they are like hens teeth.

Piece of aluminium or steel strap, bent into U-shape. Spokes are 10mm on the cam sprockets, so cut a recess of 10mm in end end of the strap.

Or, four M5 bolts drilled through a piece of metal plate, in rectangle formation. From memory the centre of the bolt holes was 12mm apart horizontally. Cant remember dimension vertically but when four bolts are in place they slide nicely into the cogs

A pic is a thousands words

I didnt have a camera at hand last year when I did the repair, plus I am office bound today and not a toolbox in site, otherwise I would have taken pics of the fabricated tools. hope this hand sketch explains

It is nice to have the correct special tools, but in practice you can get away without this one, making sure the engine has all the cooling upgrades is a much beeter way to spend your money - esp in OZ.Mind you it was only about 10-12 c in Perth today, warmer in the UK !

Thanks for the sketch LR1796, makes sense now. eightinavee- I fitted the remote thermostat at the begining of the year to avoid this from happening, guess it wasnt enough.

The original gasket was doomed from the start - the new type looks much better.I bought a F/L for £500 with a blown gasket for my brother to use while he's over from Perth for a month.I did all the mods including the strenghtend oil rail, also changed all the coolant hoses. It now runs a treat, emissions are spot on,goes well and zero coolant loss - and with only 55,000 miles on it with full history there was no wear in the rest of the motor.Rest of the car is really good too,may even make a fiver ! Good luck with yours.
Cheers Jon.

Forrestfield. Perth's OK for a city - I'm a bush boy so I dont like any of them much, but prefer it to Sydney.
