Gentlemen, I have a Evoque TD4, year 2012 and now using Delphi for diagnostics. Also we have an Audi in family and VCDS for that - a great tool for VAG cars, I must say.
But do not know enough about SDD versions, Pathfinder, Mongoose or VXDIAG to choose correct one for Evoque.
Like to have basic measurement and actuator testing etc - maybe module programming also but that’s not main point.
As Freelander 2 and Evoque are using same platform, I post in here

Please, have any suggestions for correct tool and which version - thanks in advance

I have several pieces of diagnostic equipment for the Freelander. I have Delphi, a Gap IID, JLR SDD with a Mongoose lead, an Icarsoft I930 and Dephi diagnostics.

I am too trying to look into the JLR SDD with a Mongoose lead, i have left in a friends hands, whom is an IT person, to sort it out when he has time, does it run on windows 10 ? in the meantime i have an Hawkeye, and just only yesterday managed to get an Icarsoft.

I also had an IT person sort my SDD. He used W7 and 159 IIRC which came free off the net somewhere. It's been working fine in combination with the Mongoose (maybe even a Mongoose clone) so is worth the effort to get it working. I was hoping to get the extra dash LCD information loaded, but I'm not IT literate enough to mess with the files needed for the upgrade.
Other things have got in the way anyway, so it's been pushed down the list of requirements.

Thanks, unfortunately I am person to take care of IT in our house, so want to have something “works out from the box” solution. I think that Mongoose will be by selection

164 is the latest SDD version available - but be careful what you wish for.... it needs to be reinstalled / disc image re-mounted every 90 days to maintain functionality, it's not the most intuitive interface, I used it since it was introduced until late 2018 and I still have 'errr......' moments. If you plan to use it for any kind of programming modules, either existing or new, then Win 7x64 is the base OS that is most reliable. The Mongoose clone interfaces can also be a bit hit & miss, personally, I'd only use them for diag / DTC clearing etc. if you want to program modules, then either get a genuine Mongoose or genuine VXDiag VCX - or another supported J2534 passthrough interface. When you look at prices, think about what it'd cost to get it back on the road if a software update failed due to a cheap clone cable...

I've had no issues programming with the Mongoose (possibly a clone), I've replaced the ECM without issues, and programmed injectors with it too, again issue free. I've also done 3 air path calibrations, a steering calibration and updated the Haldex module, all without a problem.
The only issue I had was keeping the battery up to voltage, as programming is surprisingly power hungry, but a 20 Amp power supply solved that issue.

I'm not saying don't use a clone cable that's a 10th of the price of the genuine one, just be aware that individual examples may not perform as well as genuine ones in all circumstances - just something to work into the cost/benefit options.
And yes, a good BSU is needed.

thanks about good comment - I don’t need latest version and our cars will not be latest ones, but I need to repair those and for that I need proper tool. I have bought some clones and only one of those is still in use.
But if I could know what happens in advance, then I invest for eurojacpot, not for cars :)

What works still is the Delphi 2013 clone and it’s still the best general tool I have. When cars are getting older and older, then I can take those to workshop but it’s a big variation in knowledge they have - external power supply is not a big thing, another car running and leads from there or extra battery in full charge.

Yes, wish I still had one! Worked flawlessly with SDD up to V158, probably works with later versions but that was the last version I used in the workshop.

Finally I ended up buying a Mongoose pro and installed the SDD 164 program on the virtual platform. The first day experience is good and SDD is really interesting tool.

At begin installed SDD on Windows 7/32 bit and when it was okay, then tried Win10/64 bit but it did'nt work.
After that SDD installed under VMWare. Details depends what kind of computer you have and status of Windows 7 media (at least Win7 / SP1) you have. My steps below, if this can help somebody

Host Fujitsu S752 with 4 GB RAM and 250 Gb ssd

Windows 10 Home

Fujitsu System Extension Utility

Install Microsoft Edge

Download Fujitsu S752 Drivers

Install Office 2019 (exe)

Install VMware17 (exe)

VMWare Client

Install Windows 7 Home premium / 32 bit (ISO)

Install kb4474419

Install kb4490628

Install WinISO

Install VMwareTools (vmware.com 78708)

Install Adobe Reader X

Install kb4019990

Install kb3033929

Install MicrosoftRootCertificateAuthority to Trusted Certificate Authorities

Install .NET Framework 4.6.2 (ned462…)

Install SDD (one installation error as “Unresolved i18n key “install_jlrma” but seems to running)

Patch and login

Install Mongoose 32 bit drivers
