Cam belt gone after only 45k

What a B'stard!

on way home Friday night, doing 65 ish on the bypass... pop, crunch, grrrr, phut, silence!

As title says... belt only done 45k miles max... I have no time to do repair at the moment.... Bro in law says min £300 repair bill. :eek:

did you manage to dip the clutch or did you keep the engine spinning while you were slowing down? could have just done the pushrods....... i would think it could be done for less than £300 if its just puchrods and timing belt, i would rather strip the head off and check the pistons and valves though

Ruby is an auto, so full on crunching to the death!

I'm assuming it's bent rods, Bro in law says he can straighten them if not too bad... I'd love to do the job but don't have the time!
 
Final update... Have Ruby back now... there was a leak from injector pump, however we now suspect it was leaking down side of front casing where last joker to do cam belt (and I know who he is... and it wasn't me!) only used half a gasket! so my biodiesel (which eats rubber belts) was probably getting in where the gasket wasn't!
 
leak from injector pump, if seal bloke wasnt a joker just wear ,never straighten push rods unless its to get you home there only £1 each hes not a competent mechanic if he thinks straighten them for you,these engines are at least 17 years old check cam belt housing for leaks anyhow
 
it's 72k according to the manual, I think, but Haynes recommends every 36k. I think generally people change it at 36k, potentially more if off roading a lot.

I certainly have mine scheduled for 36k, anyway!
