Hi guys,
I am about to change one of my height sensors today and will need to re calibrate the ride heights. Unfortunatetly I can't measure my existing ride heights as there is obviously a fault. Has anybody got any measurements of each of their ride heights for each weheel, from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch, so I have some actual measurements to work on? I didnt think to measure all my heights before the sensor went west, but then who would?
It would be much appreciated as I don't want to do any quesswork and blow the airbags off the car.

Also changing a door lock that ha been superlocked and wont open. I will be trying to find an easy way of getting the lock off with mi nimal damage and wil lpost any results if they are helpful as i know it is quite a problem when it happens.
 
Do you have the RAVE manuals??

The figures *may* be in there....not having my copy to hand I could say for certain...

If you don't have the RAVE manuals, do a search on here as there are no doubt numerous links to download it.
 
Hi, thanks. I did find some 'ranges' but it didnt mean a lot to me. I wanted some actual heights in mm or inches so i can be sure i have the correct heights all round. as I have a fault, the car slopes and the drive pulls so i want all heights bang on.
 
Set your EAS as below. All from centre of wheel to wheel arch lip.
Access 405mm.
Motorway 445mm.
Standard 470mm.
High 510mm.
Extra extended (not settable only used if chassis is grounded) 540mm


I have lost count of the number of times i have published this. There is a search function you know.:):)
 
It's be so much easier if this kind of info could be put into a sticky!

Search is all very well, but it's hard to know precisely what to search for sometimes, especially if you don't know if it's been posted before.

EAS heights would be a good start, then click search then read the results. Everything has been posted before.:):):)
 
Hey guys, Thanks a million. I am very new to this so please have a little patience with me. I'm extremely sorry to look stupid and didnt mean to get anybody riled, it wasnt intended. I was going to ask if anyone can point me in the next direction after i put the new sensor on. The fault is still showing
2 FR not functioning/respondiong (cant remember now i've brought the laptop in to get more help.
There are no other faluts showing
Front left sensor height shows 128
Rear left shows 109
Rear right shows 108
BUT the front right shows 27

Any advice (if anybody doesnt mind) before I go searching

I found this a very useful post. I'd noticed my standard ride height being a little bit higher than previously so I've just checked all the measurements and mine are :
Access 405mm
Standard 510mm
High 540mm
I had a slight issue with the motorway measurement as the tape measure kept flapping in the wind! (Coincidentally, Officer Jennings of the Cheshire Traffic police had a slight issue with the motorway measurement).

So, I'm presuming that due to me jacking her up quite high to change the air suspension bladders recently, the settings have got a bit befuddled. I suppose I'll require Datatek's nifty lead (when he's home form his hols, of course) and the free software? Doea the software and lead allow you to "reproduce" motorway height settings?

Hi Tim, I have the software and cable and you can re calibrate all height settings. They are actually in units not mm or inches so apparently you have to adjust te units then re measure. It has the ability to calibrate each individual wheel. My problem now is that I have changed the sensor and getting the same fault and height reading for the front right. I can raise and lower each wheel via the software and test the pump which all work fine.
 
The measurements shown in the EAS Software are a numerical value from 0 to 255 (it is actual 256....but if you get a 256...something is a miss)

This is an index number used by the 8bit software to represent a position on the height sensor wiper surface....

Whilst the numbers from someone elses readings will give you a good place to start, they shouldn't be regarded as absolute.

i.e. Mr X has readings of 128....you could start by setting 128 for that ride height, then go measure the wheel centre to wheel arch height, then by changing the 128 figure by a couple of digits up or down to adjust accordingly, until you get to the correct measurements of wheel centre to wheel arch.

If you are still getting incorrect values, (I assume it is a new sensor not s/h), clean the connectors and all the associated connectors in the EAS system and try again....

If you are still getting the same reading, you could either send this sensor back and ask for another and see if the fault is replicated. If it is, more searching is involved, if it corrects...yippee....

Not sure if you could try another sensor on the vehicle...i.e. removed the FL sensor and plug it in and see if the fault moves with the sensor.....you will obviously need to re-clear the faults when you put the sensors back ino their original positions again....

If you can manually raise each wheel in turn using the software...when you raise the faulty wheel....does the indicated sensor reading change or remain??

Cheers, I'll PM Datatek when he re-appears. As for your problem I am in no way an expert but did you clean the connections in the multiplug? Whenever I do anything on the big girl now that involves multiplugs, my Maplins contact cleaner and toothbrush are never very far away! Some more knowledgeable souls on here will help.

To set vehicle at motorway height so you can measure it. Drive car and select EAS lock. Then select motorway height on rocker switch. Car will go to motorway height and stay there untill you disengage EAS lock. At those heights your car will be bouncing around like a Kangaroo.

Weirdly, she's not. It wasn't driving characteristics that brought this to my attention; it was just that she looked higher in standard mode than before the air spring change. Having said that, I drive relatively short journeys at a leisurely pace. I'll try the EAS lockout procedure to meassure motorway height.

Unless someone has fitted wrong shockers, you should not be able to move sensors outside their range of travel by jacking.

When i higher and lower the front right sensor the reading remains the same. It is a second hand one that was tested before i bought it and has a 90 day guarantee. I thought the sensors were 'sided' but maybe someone could correct me and i could try swapping them.
 
Hmmmmm....

As mentioned above, did you clean the connector/multiplug before you plugged it in as a poor electrical connection could cause lack of reading....

The fact it reads 27, means atleast something could be getting through.....if it was totally disconnected, would the software display FF or 256, both of which would indicate lack of repsonse from sensor I would imagine.....Wammers or Datatec could answer that no doubt.....

It seems strange you are getting the exact same figure from the old sensor and this 'new' one...!!!

I am sure the mounting of each sensor is individual i.e. not transferrable.....but if you remove the FL sensor and just plug it into the FR lead...and plug the FR sensor into the FL lead and see if the 27 figure swaps sides....if it does you know it is the sensor....if it stays then you know it is a cable fault somewhere.

Obviously, you will have to reset the faults when you put the sensors back in the correct places again...!!
 
Older sensors pre 97 are handed and cannot be swopped side to side after 97 sensors can be swopped side to side but not front to back. When S/H dealers say things have been checked many times it just means they have given them a quick look over, sometimes it means they have taken it off and put it on a shelf. Connect it to a multi meter set to resistance, as it is moved through it's travel resistance should progressivly change. No jumps but smoothly change, if there are any glitches it's knackered. Clean the plug and socket first of all make sure both have good continuity.
 
Thanks, i thoroughly cleaned it with WD40, and the receiving plug, then let them dry out before linking them.
I will try swapping them tomorrow as I have the kids home now and dont want to bugger it up and find i cant get them to school in the morning.

P.S. i fixed the passenger door and had to smash the lock as described in Range Rover net. Bit of a struggle to get the screwdriver to catch, then I had to hit the long white plastic strip that runs down the side (just below and behind where i smashed it) to release the spring. That was literally just a push 'downwards' with the screwdriver. the new one went on in less than 2 minutes.
 
Thanks Wammers, if I find the sensor IS working, what should i look for next? You seem to be the oracle around here and i would appreciate your advise.
P.S. I havent got a multi meter, any other way of testing?
