hi all i am going to view with the hope to buy a 2001 range rover dhse tomorrow it has had 2 owners from new last 1 6 years, it has 109k on her ,would the milieage be ok on one of these? allso what are the things i need to check as it is a private sale any tips and pointers would be great,are these good machines i will be using her evryday as our family car , hope to share my ownership experience here if we do buy her thanks again will:D
 
I'll be honest, I'm no Range Rover expert but I do know this. On the plus side, they don't rust too much (compared to a Classic, anyway). On the downside, the electrics can go, as can the air suspension. So check ALL the electrics work and put the EAS on its highest setting so you can inspect the bags. Ask if the suspension airbags or pump have been changed recently - hopefully the bags will have been at least.

Other than that, usual car checks I guess? Also, try this site for info: Range Rovers
 
anymajor things to look out for

you should have done a LOT or research before you go out and buy one of these.there are a lot of things that can and will go wrong on p38's.there is a chap on this forum who bought a p38 of a dealer,he thought because of that it would be a good one.WRONG,it is the biggest load of crap you could imagine,he is taking the dealer to court over this.BEWARE.:eek:
 
just press all the buttons and drive it for a long as you can before you pay the man like all 9 / 10 year old cars it should be reliable but then there's p38's some good one's some not but look at all the electrics and make sure the ride hights go up and down with no beeps or messages.

Hopefully you will get a good one but like every one else says if the air bags are 9 years old almost time to replace.

not had a land rover b4 and always wanted a rr this looks to be the best i have found on paper with in our budget just wondered if they are prone to things i could check b4 we bought cheers again

I'm know expert on but make sure the air suspension all works check the service history to see if it's had any work done on it, these can be big bills I know I've just replaced all four air spring and the pump :doh:
Check that the air con works as well (might not be easy in this weather) look for a little book icon on the display if it's on it's going to need looking at.
The engines are good as long as they've been well serviced plus see how well it starts in the cold (glow plugs)
Try the low range box in all gears not forgetting reverse big clunking could mean bushes.

Do Not believe any part of the advert or anything the seller says about minor or cheap to fix faults. I travelled over 100 miles earlier this year to view a low miles 2 lady owners from new DHSE. It was top money at nearly £7000. It was a pig, bad paint, no air scuffed bumpers craked lights worn airbags ripped interior and one fob. Now before I travelled I spent over half an hour on the phone talking to the trader about the condition ticking off all the questions and writing down his answers. Absolute crap. I took one look and left it was so awful. He is near Pangbourne
 
If you have never driven one of these before and it hasn't been chipped,re-mapped, additional power box, there is nothing wrong with it, they really are that slow:D
I'm taking the mick a little but if it is in standard form and you have never driven one before you will think find it very sluggish. There's plenty of info on here how to beef em up so don't let it put you off.
As said like any 10 year old motor you will have a few issues, some are just a bit more complex than on other cars.
To avoid instant additional expense check the air suspension and climate control out carefully. None of these problems are insumountable but negotiate a few hundred off the price if they don't work 100%.
Just go for it, pain in the arse when playing up but no 10 year old motor can touch them for comfort and presence. Good luck.
 
check the coolant. check the oil etc for signs of contamination. if not looked after they can be prone to cracked heads or hg failure. make sure it starts when its hot and runs smoothly. if you get a good un you wont regret it..

Two owners and the last one having it for 6 years is a good sign, check the service history. Budget to replace the air suspension bags, they will be worn out. Check the suspension goes up and down on the button. Check the radiator header tank is at the correct level. You may find the aircon condensor needs replacing if it hasn't been done. Check the windows go up and down with no clicking and banging noises, the regulators wear. Make sure you get the handbook with the EKA code and the radio code, make sure you get at least 2 key fobs and that they both work, they should be numbered Key 1 and Key 2.
Mines a late 200 DHSE bought with 92K and now approaching 104K apart from a few replacement parts (like the airbags) it's been great.:D
 
check the bastard for hot start give it two minutes or more,if it does not fire back into life straight away it has issues worn pump or something else going on,if it starts from hot happy days,look out for the hot start fix box.
