I've got a 2001 defender 110 csw it's developed a fault with the speedo not working. There's power to it Nd it shows the milage and trip, buy doesn't register the speed or any distance travelled. As this is an electrical speedo, my thoughts was it could be a faulty speed sensor, but don't even know where these would be if it has them and what's its driven from. Anyone any ideas or suggestions?

The TD5 uses an electronic gizzmo (transducer) that is mounted on the LT230 (transfer box) on the left side (looking towards the rear of the car) behind the hand/transmission brake drum.

It's a bit of a bitch to get at unless you have a ramp, good eyesight and tiny hands...

A gear drives a cog that spins a hollow square peg that the transducer sits in.
Two wires feed more electronics which are housed in the speedo.

Thanks that makes sense. Just had a new chassis fitted. Could have been a quick job with tge body off. Well that's the way it goes some time's.
