auto ATF dexron 2 or 3

2000 thor 4.0 p38 Im going to change the auto box fluid. What should go back in dexron 11 or 111. I can see this has been discussed but the thread went a little deep. Is it ok to put dexron 111 in the auto box. Does this also go in the transfer box. How much does the transfer box hold

Hi the transfer box ... gear oil... is what is used... to me dex 2 is the same as dex 3 might be a new additives to improve life of the oil ..higher operating temp ect bit i think these are backwards compatible normally hope this helps
