Hi All

I have the amber light on for the ACE system.

The day before i heard a hissing for want of a better word at the rear of the car when i turned it off, I presumed it was the air suspension lowering.
Could this be linked|

Lever is slightly over the max, but the fluid looks dirty.
Do you drain the fluid from the filter on the pump and if so how much would i use.

could dirty fluid cause the amber light to come on

Thanks

There is no sure way of knowing why your amber light is on other than plugging into a computer. The oil should not be dirty and the ACE system is extremely sensitive to debris in the oil so this is unlikely. I'm not sure what the service schedules say about changing the oil so it would be worth checking. Whatever happens if the light goes RED stop driving. It will damage the pump very quickly and they sell for £350 plus.
The hissing sound is normal, how long have you had the vehicle ? It should do that prety much every time you stop and get out as it is the self leveling doing it's job.
Paul.

Hi Thanks for the response

Only had the car a few months so now i get to see some of the faults, but still love it.

Looking at the service book the oil has never been changed so thats the first job. Will change/clean the filter in the pipe box.
I believe there is an actuator or something above the rear view mirror that may be the problem.
I do have what i think is a leaky sunroof so that may have got damaged.
Do you know how much fluid the system takes when you change it and does it need to be electronically bled

thanks
again

When I bought my TD5 it had been standing for around six months, on the day I collected it the amber ACE light came on after 50 miles. I stopped, turned the ignition off and waited a few minutes, turned it back on and the amber light had gone out. Never had it come on since (other than prechecks upon starting). I suspect the fault appeared due to the vehicle being stood for a long time.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd rush in and replace the fluid yet until you know the cause of the fault. After all, if it involved having to do something causing the fluid to need to be replaced AGAIN, it sounds like it would be twice the effort (+cost).

Re the fault, without a computer, you are gambling, but try:

www.discovery2.co.uk / ACE amber light - Pressure Transducer

It'll cost you £80 if you're wrong however.

The whole ACE system holds approx 1-1.5L so not a-lot.
You can use ATF Dexron 3 fluid (The red stuff - Can get 5L for about £23) from Halfords or asuch as an alternative to the Landrover stuff (about £15 per 1L )

The ACE system will only illuminate a fault light when the fault is present, when the fault isn't there the warning light will extinguish.

As far as im aware REF bleeding it..... I think (Don't hold me on this...) but if you fill her up with fluid..... take a short drive doing lots of sharp turns and getting the ACE system to Work - it should bleed itself. Obviously check the fluid straight after and top up if reqd.

Personally if it was me I would change the fluid and put in a new filter to begin with and go from there if the oil is that dirty that could well be the cause of the prob. Cost you about £30ish.

Spoke to LR dealer today about the filter

Nice chap he said why buy one when you can wash it out.

Asked him what with?

Not sure but it you buy and extra litre of the fluid you could use that:confused:

Save in one hand spend in the other.

any ideas about washing them out

Re the fault, without a computer, you are gambling,

When it's about ACE that's the best possible advise...though u can have a warning light without fault code logged......happened to me...it was a bad contact within the fusebox:doh:......after some struggle and measurements i found it and repaired it without spending any money

Hello,

What kind of symptoms did you have and was it the fusebox under the bonnet or in the cabin?

Regards Gerhard

Hi, ......amber light on and ACE was in locked bar condition....it was the engine bay fusebox...i disassembled it and cleaned all pins after that everything became normal

I'll show u the message which i PM'd to another buddy, u'll understand from it:

"Hi m8, same was mine, amber light no fault code.....it was a bad contact within the engine bay fusebox....if u have a good friend with D2 try to make a swap with his fusebox....it's not a very big job ... the 2 feed wires and some multiplugs...if the light goes off then u know...the fusebox is kind of "tiered/stratified", more metal boards must make contact one with another there and they might lose it due dirt or rust or oxidation. Anyway check the contacts around fuse F15 and the ACE relay(R14)...by the way did u check the fuse and the relay themselves? The diagnostic protocol doesnt cover the situation when the ACE does not get feed or earth as to generate fault codes... just the light comes on...strange indeed"

If it's not from the fusebox then check the inputs at the ACE ECU's mutiplug....the feed which was missing on mine at the fusebox might not reach the ACE ECU on yours for some other reason.....check RAVE , u'll see the inputs there in a table and make some measurements with a multimeter (pins 11 and 28 = +12v, pins 22, 23, 32 earth)
