A Few Questions For You

The thing is about our diesel they are not meant to be reved like a petrol car.

You have to accept that you will get there slowly !

I completely agree with you. However, the starter of this thread raised a query specifically to do with engine behaviour at specific revs, which he thought might be a fault (and it might be an indication of a problem!!). That is why I thrashed the bollocks of mine the other day - hope she'll forgive me !!

Odd that, my car is female and yet appears to have testicles.........;)

Well, she IS a Land Rover after all - so she WILL be faking it. 'cos as we all know, when Land Rover talks about quality and RELIABILITY, they're Defo faking it !!

Cheers for the responces again, I have been using ASDA own today, also just got myself a BOOKERS card so will be off down there the weekend, I have only used PURE VEG oil from Asda and it was 80p/ltr, so not sure about the addative bit yet.

I tried again to gun the old girl and found that the turbo kicks in at 1600rpm and then fades as it hits 3750rpm, cant get it any higher than 3900rpm on the rev counter, so I am still unsure if it is a limiter problem or the wrong pully on the alternator, will have to check the crank speed with a hand held tach-o-meter at the weekend to see which is right the rec counter or the alternator.

I have another request PRETTY PLEASE

So that I can see if the Revs are correct to the engine, could someone do a little favour for me ;-)

300TDi Manual Owners Only :)

Right 1.
Drive down the road at 40mph / 50mph and 60mph in 5th GEAR and tell me what your revs are showing.
This will then tell me what the RPM is to the Speed.

I have looked through the Workshop manual and it says nothing about mph pre 1000rpm Grrr

I know my speedo is correct ish, due to the Sat Nav tells me I am out by 3mph at 70mph, so I am presumming it will be the Revs that are out.

Many Thanks

3 mph out at 70 is pretty good (esp on sat nav which only takes an average in two dimensions and is really only accurate over long distance averages) - but i wouldn't knock that accuracy - it could be something like non-original tyres contributing to it as well.

So just for your interest, do these look correct for a 300TDi in 5th Gear??

Took this morning on the way home from work at 3am.

30Mph (Reading 975rpm)

40Mph (Reading 1250rpm)

Right so my revs look correct to you towards the speed, cheers for the reply, so the pully on the alternator must be correct to be giving the correct reading on the dash.

Looks like I will have to look more into the limiter then or the throttle cable stop. Still won't rev any higher than just under 4000rpm.
Which is a pain when overtaking in third and it hits the limit way too early.

I will have to get the misses to free rev it at the weekend while I have my head under the bonnet (EAR PLUGS INSTALLED, LOL)

I will keep you all posted at my findings.
