Hi ive got a couple of problems with my 1996 300 tdi auto you might be able to help me with

1. is after a hard day on sunday my engine check light comes on when it changers gear and it doesn't change from cold until its warmish or 1/2 a mile up the road.

ive changed the gearbox oil & filter today and its still the same!

2. after fitting my new shocks and springs it saggs on the drivers side

all the shocks were primed and all my springs are located and sitting how they should, i know they can just lean sometimes but its never done it before. we have had it up in the and can see nothing what so ever to why it is doing this!!!

3. the bottom end seems to have a slight rattle that it didnt have before...i thought it was the exhaust blowing but after getting under it today... its not:mad:

gearbox is a funny one cus it changes perfect when warm, the other 2
ill probably have to live with but they annoy the hell out of me!!

fitted new fluid and filter today and its still the same...does anyone know the best way to read fault codes on these..? i have a code reader but only does from 2000+

Wont be a fault code on box at that age I'd think, pretty sure the light only comes on to let you know the box is getting too hot if towing but someone will be along shortly to correct me if wrong

Did you change auto fluid and t'fer too, could affect it but not sure

auto not changing till warm will be govenor in rear end case of box its a common fault can be caused by poor servicing previous to an oil change ,sometimes they settle down in time ,some need cleaning once removed some need changing springs depend on what you bought ,what part numbers were they ,often new parts can be crap as well as poor fitting

Thought that might be the case!

no just the auto fluid..just over 5l its nice and clean at the min, the ****e that came out was worse than the engine oil...

needs a clutch pack or two first for long term use dont do long journeys its on borrowed time ,repairable usually i find when you open them up

Thanks both...doesn't look like a job i would be able to do then!!

what sort of price would you pay to get it done..? i am in the trade but dont have the knowledge to do it unfortunalty:(

if you get it out and stand it on its end t/c housing up ,undo all the 17mm nheaded bolts ,pull off bell housing and pump housing look at the 2 clutches you first come too ,if its just the first one about £50 in parts similar if just the second
