Would like to do a little survey please. What kind of fuel consumption RR 4,6 owners get from there vehicle? Been looking on the E-bay and find it amusing, that people advertising these cars there with incredible miles per gallon. One even claimed to get 22-26mpg.:D
I usually get around 15-18mpg   ....
I only run on petrol, no LPG. The car is in very good health.:)

Does it always rain on the Bankholidays?

Yes, it is a lovely engine. If I can control my right foot, perhaps can get around 18-19mpg...But I love her growling. I have Janspeed exhaust on it and sound very nice. Music to my ears.
:D

On a nice run I normally get around 19mpg when sitting at 70mph. I once tried to see what she would do sitting at 60mph so I drove from Windor to Dumfries in the dead of night with no traffic and managed 22mph.

yeah i get about 21ish at about 65. i always use the cruise control as this keeps things nice and smooth. My Clio desiel does 56mpg at 75 with the cruise on!!!!

Correct Keith the diesel wins hands down.:D:D:D:D

Oi!!!... it sunny here & I can see your house from mine ... go & sit in the garden & chill will yer ...............Oil Burners better than V8's ... Tch! the VERY idea!!!!

You bin smokin that funny green stuff again Tony ????

I have a Porsche 4.7 litre with a proper V8 in it. It sounds great BUT would not want to use it for going to the shops in. It has a button on the dash you can press to override the outomatic petrol station pullin mode. Just too expensive to run on an everyday basis. Same applies to V8 Rangies for me. Very nice but when you can run the same thing for half the cost they are a no brainer for me.

That maybe true, but it is a lot extra to pay for a sound track. Diesels are a lot more reliable, just as comfortable and cost a lot less to run.

When I test drove a P38 Diesel before I got my 4.6 I swore I'd never get one, they were just too sluggish for pulling out into London traffic. But as petrol hits £1.20 a litre I'm having second thoughts.

We average 14mpg around town and approx 20 on a steady run. Even on our limited mileage the price of petrol these days makes it an expensive toy to run.

Same old problem though, took my 2000 vogue with 90k to a dealer for px against a 2001 DHSE with 82K. Both RR in A1 condition. He offered 4K for mine if I paid 8K for his!! I know they are in business to make money but thats taking the p##s. 4K buys a lot of petrol so we declined his offer.

That is why you can get V8s for peanuts but diesels are holding their price.

Whilst appreciating diesels hold a premium over V8's because of extra ecconomy I think this was a blatant case of profitering. Asking me to fork out 4K for essentially the same car with better economy, still not in the planet saving league, but definately in non-league performance wise:D was never going to clinch the deal.

As said 4K buys a lot of petrol or a top notch LPG conversion.

On todays roads performance wise there is not a lot between a chipped diesel and a V8. Unless you are wanting to fly about like a lunatic, the diesel makes much more sense. I have a chipped 2.5 and it is pretty quick if you use the extra power. You use a bit more fuel using the extra grunt, but nowhere near as much as the V8 does.

True cost comparisons are not being used here. The costs of maintaining an oil burner is far more than a v8. Its uses a turbo which can set you back £1k if it blows, plus the cost of the pump and injectors.
A v8 on gas is the most cost effective and flower friendly of the Rangies. I pay 56p a litre for gas .

And how much does a new V8 block cost then? Properly maintained a diesel engine will outlast a V8 by a very substantial margin. Any engine that puts out lots of CO2 is more flower friendly than one that puts out none. Flowers, trees and plants cannot live without the stuff. Diesels don't produce that much CO2 anyway. Lots of other nasties yes but CO2 no.
