Hello,

Well the alternator bracket on my 200tdi has decided to snap it's self in half, so I now have an alternator dangling from the side of my engine. Does any body know of an alternative method of supporting the alternator (preferably with pictures)? I intend to completely remove the cast alloy bracket because it's poop and I don't have power steering fitted anyway.

Thanks

Hmm. Thanks for the link. Looking at things it is still going to be easier to fabricate a whole new bracket just for the alternator out of steel. I think I will have a go at botching it together for the time being (dunno how yet) and then I will attempt to weld up a new bracket to suit. I think I'll be at a loss with the ally welding. It's a really horrible crumbly material!

was just going to post a thread up about this!!

mine has snapped too, has been alright though, but after todays trip over Salisbury plains, with all the boucing around it probably has moved again (havent checked as it was dark when i got home) and its now making that horrible noise of a belt screaching that only goes away when I get into 3rd gear!
even does it on idle..

dont get the battery light on though...

mmmm.. thinking about it, as i dont get the battery light, could it be something else?
