Has anyone fitted an electric coolant pump to a 200tdi in a series 3. My alternator sits above the engine to the left on a custom bracket as it wont fit in its original position because of all the pipework. The fan belt drives the coolant pump but only just touches the pulley for about 15 degrees or so. thought an electric pump may improve curculation , Thoughts please.

Electric pumps work, but no idea who has done it on a 200Tdi. Why did you move the alternator? Can you not have it in the stock location and then not be an issue?

I moved the alternator to allow the fiting of all the pipes for a full width intercooler at the front of a series 3 rad with the air fillter high up to the left. It all works very well but under the bonnet is now a bit full what with servo, power steering tank. oil cooler etc.

I can understand. I ran my SIII 200Tdi without an interncooler. Which actually worked fine tbh and suited the Series with that level of power. Sadly I sold the vehicle, but my plan was to fit a Td5/Puma intercooler as it had outlets on either end, which would probably have made the pipe work less troublesome.

So has anybody got any idea what pump i could use thanks

This is where the alternator is
My slt is fitted on top of the timing chest using the a/c pump mounts

Are you running a discovery or defender tdi? Pictures would help but if you are mounting the alternator in the AC compressor position can you not use a twin belt setup? You have one belt running the alternator using the ac compressor tensioner and a second belt running everything else?

Either similar to the gwyn lewis setup: link

Or use the original alternator pulley and run the belt to the other side using a longer belt similar to this thread here: link

That disco alt mount plate looks awfully thin?

It is not mine, But I would agree with you. The qwyn lewis setup is to sort of gauge steel i would be looking at. I researched fitting a second alternator a couple of years ago which is where I came across the thread I linked to. But every scenario I looked at for the alternator in that positions used a second belt rather than trying to use the main belt.

The gwyn lewis is a complicated affair, as its meant for the def engine which has no holes in the top of the timing chest for the a/c pump unlike the disco version.

They do one for a disco engine as well but it still uses the separate AC belt for the setup.
