my normally reliable diesel 90 wont start...the engine is turning over but its not willing to fire up, i have heard it may be the diesel stop solenoid...would the motor still turn over? Could it simply be that the battery isnt providing enough power? It did die after a few attempts (4 or 5) although these were quite lengthy..15-20 second with key engaged. Now on charge and im hoping it will start in the morning but want to be prepared with other ideas if it doesnt..Mark

check for air in the system, bleed the fuel filter and the diesel pump, ask if u want pics of how to do this! Also, check the connection to the stop solenoid, and check for voltage. it should be +12 with the key in the 'run' position. Let me know what you find!

thnks, it started 1st time this morning after the battery was on charge all night...weird...i may have a problem with the wiring from the cab heater as when i use it i notice the volt meter drops a little, to halfway rather than 3 quaters. I can drive for weeks not using the heater and no probs, i think it drains enough to just stop the battery having enough cold cranking amps...at a a guess. I'm going to start a new thread about what battery is best, mines only a 62 amp but as i say usually starts no probs..cheers

hmm. the heater will cause the battery needle to drop, but probably not that much. I just put a new battery in mine - 96Ah, as big as will fit and it works a treat, only cost £57. If you are anywhere near north wales i can point you in their direction also, if you want. How long do you normally have to crank it for, and how long do you hold the glow plugs on for? Also, your alternator may be on its way out, if it is then this could mean that the fan just uses enough current to stop it charging. With everything electric in the landy on, and about 2-3000 rpm, the battery voltage measured with a volt meter should be around 13V.
