Fitting a boost gauge. Simple? Nope. Fail!

I mean come on, just how hard can it be???
I know it was going to be one of those sort of jobs when I had to fanny around for ages making the gauge fit the pod correctly, but once that hurdle was over, I was confidant the rest would be childs play......
Below is a catalogue of my misery and failure.

First off, decide where I'm putting the pod and mount it. Well, that bit was easy.

Then realise that in order to route the hose through to the engine bay I will have to drill through the bulkhead. Removing the centre console part of the dash seemed like an obvious thing to do. 20 minutes of ****ing around got me this far.

I'm on a roll :) I'm the daddy. Just quickly drill through the back of the dash and I'll be in the engine bay in no time. Easy peasey.

Bugger. Thats wiped the smile off my face. All that has happened is that the drill bit has gone through some crappy piece of plastic at the back of the dash, but has not penetrated the first 'skin' of the bulkhead.
Ok, not to worry. I now have a useless hole in my dash top, but hey, never mind. I'll just re-route the boost gauge tube down the side of the dash and drill another hole by the steering column and feed it though there.
Drilling. Bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh fantastic :banghead: Bloody double skinned bulkhead with quite a gap between the tow layers. Now not only do I have a useless hole in my dash top, but I also have a useless hole in my bulkhead. :banghead: FFS!

Right then. I completely acknowledge that I have failed as a man, (except that I can catch crabs with a line and start a proper fire). So just where should I be routing the bloody tube for the boost gauge?

Cheers

Hi, DM,
Have, in the past used some very stiff wire and wd40 to pull the tube through an existing cable grommety thing in the bulkhead, sealing the slight gap created around the tube with silicone sealant. Did this on disco series one and also volvo 740td estate!
Best of luck,

paul s.

on your 300 there should be a large 1" gromet behind/underneath the screen wash water bottle.
i think this is the blank for the clutch or brake if it were a right hand drive model. this will bring it out in the back of the glovebox.
I got shed loads of aux wiring going through there on mine.

I found a grommet on the passenger side, near where the main loom goes through the bulkhead, ( 200 ).
Yes its a 200 and doesnt help much but was it this hole by any chance?

Thats where I piped my boost gauge through. Got the pipe, tee'd off the pipe on the turbo, routed it, removed the clock and fitted the boost gauge. Took 15 mins and all I needed were a pair of snips and a screwdriver:D

No need for drilling things:p:rolleyes:

Guys,
Quick question - where exactly do you tee this into? What pipe etc from the turbo?
Also, what sort of pressure should a standard 200tdi (no intercooler fitted yet) be generating?
OK - that was 2 questions!
thanks for any help...

I see. That's very..... interesting!
I'm afraid my Chinese is a little rusty - was hoping for something in English or a photo of an installation already done.
Or maybe an explanation of how it's done if photos aren't available...?
