Kev,
Just thought it's easy to find, big enough, food, drink & fuel, while folk wait for everyone to converge, also not too far from there to the Plain, so convoy won't be too stressful.

Like I said, makes perfect sense to me:)

The other thing is, the peeps from Hertfordshire can get going without having to wait for us in Beds to drive across somewhere to meet them and then stop again at Fleet, I would venture to suggest we decide to meet at Fleet at whatever time is sensible. On the basis we were talking about getting on the road at 7:00/7:30am we would be at Fleet say no later than 8:30/9:00am depending on the usual variables. I can't see it taking more than an hour and a half to get to Fleet but correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you think that is a sensible plan? what does everbody else think?

Kev,
I can do Fleet in a car in 1 hour from Luton, with clear Motorways. I plan to leave at 7.00 so 9.00 should be doable in the Series.

MHM, thanks, got it.

So how many of us are there coming from the Hertford area, if we can get some numbers and locations i will arrange a central point to meet:D

Travel time to Fleet sounds about right.

Don't go that way hardly at all these days. As long as there are nno road works and the variable speed limit on M25 is kind woudl say hour and a half is plenty for a relatively sedate amble.

I wonder if there is any merit in looking at alternatives? What would you think to taking cross country route to Cowley then onto A34 down to Newbury then on toward Winchester. The 34 meets the 303 not far from Andover if I remember well. It may take slightly longer that way but it could be an option. However, motorways have the advantage of being easy to follow if not a little tedious if you know what I mean.

Glenn, from Hertford I would think the world is your oyster. If I'm not mistaken (lost??) you can choose A10, A414, A1, M1, as routes to get onto M25 and on round to M3. So I suppose that might give you South Mimms services for one, Galleria at Hatfield, I think a layby near the bottom of the M10, and even Watford might give possibilities.

Choices and decisions eh!

BTW, if you wanted to go laning one evening later this week (Friday) I should be up for a wee tour, let me know what you think.

Hey folks.. we're gonna try to get a pitch for the friday night as well. I believe that Jai is going to drive down on the Friday with us, (though I my have got crossed wires).

Also, have spoken to Jai about taking his trailer so there's a possibility of loading spares/tools/equipment/girlfriends(Gibbo)/Teenage daughters (me) n stuff into that if would make anything easier for folks.

DB, can I have the phone number for the camp site, and also, some folks have been asking the cost of the pitches, do you have any idea?

Zoolandy, if you wanted to stash the camping gear at my house before you go on you hols, we can bring it down for you. Might save a load of space during the holiday.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I haven't got a license to tow a large trailer although its possible a wide track sankey fully laiden is ok, people will be screaming no no no I can hear already! I have checked with a friend, who is a traffic cop and he says mabe its ok, its down to interpretation of the law and he will get back to me. This isn't a problem really I'm sure we can fit all the gear on my roofrack and in the back of the 90. I will let you know asap, I have been towing the sankey fully loaded with earth since I was 14 so towing and reversing it is not a problem it may just require me to turn up and do the test. I need to do it at some point anyhow. Jai

Two week across forces Salisbury Plain exercises finish today - so , apart from unexploded mortars, bombs, live rounds and the odd thunderflash, should be OK for your weekend :D.

iv got the license to tow mate if it helps :D

Cheers for the offer Glenn, i will get around this somehow

Who are these crazy people

I just got quoted 550 pounds for a 2 day training and test. I think its bull***t! Gonna go screw them all and get my Hgv as soon as funds allow.

My neice could probably reverse a trailer and drive better than these so called 'expert trainers' my dads an ex hgv examiner and then a hgv test driver for many years and has taught us all very well!

Think I better leave now before I end up smashing things up Jai

Ive been quoted similar for me towing its complete cack!
I dont know any one whos ever been done but I bet you I will be the first if i risked it!

Jai,

Seems a bit silly to me. I didn't know you had to take a separate test to tow a trailer. According to my licence I can tow a a heavy trailer but I suppose that is one of those things being older and having a pink paper licence.

Anyway, if you need something towed let me know, I'm sure we can work something out.

Cheers.
