Tbh I was not expecting flat pack! Certainly makes life easier though :D all stripped out and been hard at work all day, only just finished in fact! Got a load of pics to upload but yall may have to wait!

So far it has been pretty straight forward, though I can tell the rear mounts are going to be a pain..

@neilly Unsure to be honest mate! Its the Safety Devices L243 cage if that helps. Full external with no internal B-Hoop didnt want the agro!

Also got 25 pics so far ready to upload, in far more detail than the SD manual! When I get some time I'll do a proper write up/thread on how to do so. So far if you can measure well, use an angle grinder/drill and sling a spanner you should be able to fit a cage. I say this now but come Friday I'll probably be in tears :D:p

Overall gone very well so far. Got the right hand wing done, left wing is ready to go on after I run the intake for the snorkel, cut and fit the bracket for the right C pillar too.

So far round about 10 hours in.

Been going well-ish. Front was the most daunting but so far the easiest to actually do. C pillars where pretty easy as well, just time consuming. The rears however have been an absolute nightmare. Trying to get the crossmember support in place and the rear tub support took me just shy of 5 hours over all. 45 minutes of that was getting ONE BOLT to fit.:mad::mad::mad:

One side is close to being done, however I have made a couple errors... Some how I've managed to damage the threads on the bottom holes of the front mount and one bottom on the rear. So much so that a bolt will no longer go in... Not ideal. Going to buy an M10 tap kit and attempt repair as replacement parts are well VERY VERY expensive.

Seems to happen because 3 bolts will go in happily, 1 never will, so its undo put the one that wont fit in nicely, try the other 3, rinse & repeat until youre sick. I think what happened is the cage dropped as I was removing a section damaging the thread.

So far I can see why companies are charging £2k+ for fitting! Only thing keeping me going is the money I'm saving!

With any luck I'll be done by tomorrow, taking many many pics as I go. Plan is to do a full write up to use in addition to the SD instructions which couldnt be any worse if done by Ikea China

Looks like you will never be able to open your flaps once the front bottom windscreen bar is in place..is that right?

Looking good, make sure to buy a decent tap set. not a cheapy set.

Cheers

Yeah trying to find one locally, reckon Halfrauds will have a half decent set?

They have complete Sealey sets, if you are just recutting a slightly damaged thread they may do , but on something critical which I did not want to mess around with I would look at getting a good set, On an M10 tap to turn it, I found one of the sockets in my 200pc Halfords socket set worked well this week . Space was too tight to use the std tap wrench.

My local plant / tool rental place has dormer taps sets on the shelf , may be worth looking at a place like that.

Cheers

Two are alright, just the first one or two threads, one is bad though at least half of it is damaged.

Space isnt an issue. Bottom two threads on that mount, bottom right is alright, bottom left is badly damaged. Bottom left on the rear same place.

Obviously, one thing to check is what pitch the bolts have. I would expect them to be M10 x 1.5 , but double check to make sure you do not get a nasty surprise and find them to be fine pitch threads..LOL.

Cheers

Interesting, never used such a device!

Threads are all standard M10s, 1.5 far as I can tell!

Sealy Tap Set

Halfords Tap Set

Screwfix Tap Set

Best choice?

As you are only recutting a damaged thread then personally, If I had to I would go for the CK kit , but it only has one tap for M10 x 1.5 not sure if it is taper or plug? Halfords kit if it is in stock, it has two taps for M10 x1.5 so gives you a good chance of finishing the job, but reviews say they break and are not the best. The sealey kit is web exclusive only !.

I would still look for a set of good name taps from a local tool shop. More expensive but generally better quality.

Cheers dude. Not 100% sure what Im looking for so appreciate the advice! I'll grab the CK kit, should be good enough to repair the two lightly damaged threads. Hopefully the other one isnt as a bad as I think.

If the threads just needed "cleaning" then you could get a good quality bolt and cut a lead in taper on the end and a groove down either side , this could then be screwed in to clean the thread up. Something to do when in dire need , but is a bodge.

you can buy similar ,its no bodge

Going to crack on with the other side tomorrow, should be a bit easier as that side has no damaged threads! Also know how to fit the crossmember support now so should cut that from 5 hours to 2 maybe hahaha
