Oil treatment: seal conditioner

Just looked at the date of the posts, bugger I was away and missed this one, better luck next time eh wammers.:D

Same as me, just back from Denmark just 50 miles short of two thousand miles and no issues on this trip apart from the cost of petrol which is cheaper over there. Normally use 15/40 in the V8 with high mileage close now on two hundred thousand (been rebuilt a bit). Reminds me of a previous life when I had a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (Weddings). The test center refused to pass it as it had an oil drip so tried and additive which was suposed to make the seals soften - no good over a week or so but just then I got the workshop manuals (5) which showed that there was no rear oil seal! just a thrower so I took off the rear cover and inserted a sponge and popped the cover back on - she passed and after the test removed the sponge. Funny old life!

First impressions with the 10W40 in are that it's running a little quieter - could just be due to the oil being fresh but I'll take it anyway :)

Also, haven't had any cam carrier leakage yet, but only done 25 miles so far.

There's some may in the provent (which is effectively just a catch can now because the filter is out), but I think that might be the residue getting blown out of the breather.

When the rain stops I'll give it a clean out and see if it continues.

Cool. Sounds like progress.

I bunged 2 tubes of that Forte stuff in my miggy. Not cured but MUCH better. Get the feeling it won't be a long-term fix though. Too expensive to do regularly. I'll see how bad it gets and maybe invest in some of that dye the red arrows use!

You can get large drums delivered from Smith and Allan for a reasonable price. Cannot remember what a 300l drum costs because it was too big for me but the 20l one is about £56 delivered from memory.

I'll take some pics next time, it's kind of like a black slime that seperates out into a sticky watery subtance and just the black gunk when out on tissue/kitchen roll. It doesn't have any oil like consistency at all.

Beyond my ken.

Don't like the sound of it but then that engine flush loosens up all sorts of stuff. I had an old Astra and not only was I scraping peat out the breathers afterwards but it smoked like a fire in a tyre factory afterwards. Never touched the stuff since.

Pics might help those with more experience though.
