I went and flogged my old landy.
I'm sticking to comfy, warm, dry, and quiet modern cars that dont need constant reapirs for a while, I'm getting old.
Some geyser bought the old girl to build a siamese between my old shell and 300tdi motor with a rangie classic chassis.
No doubt he'll be posting here about it soon.
We had lots of fun using ratchet straps to drag the thing onto a trailer, esp with 2 axles and a ton of spares in the back of the old girl.

I think thats a shame, I enjoyed your comments and tips. I,ve struggled for two hours just putting my shockers back on so I know the feeling.

Cmon Doc thats dissapointing. i know how you feel though, mine is unrelenting as everything is stuffed on it. im up for axles, flanges and maybe a diff this week. did I mention the prop shaft too? its ****loads of money and Im constantly thinking Im doing the wrong thing by doing this?/!:Cry:

When you see your landy going real well and looking good driving down the road, your going to feel the same as seeing your wife walking down the road in the arms of another noooooooooo. :(

Nope dont do could have's, if I see my old landy driving down the road I'll just flash mi lights and think well done mate.
I didnt give up with the old girl, more a case of giving up with the state of everything, cost wise.
I sold mi army jeep and mi scooter last year, and sold some of mi' 'shop earlier this year, think I'm gonna get a pipe and slippers.

sad times!

Its coming home to a broken landy to continually try and fix that gets me through the day and that gets me up at 6am on a Saturday.

Had my MOT today (after a fail some months ago) only 2 points it failed on this time - i see this as a massive bonus and i've already fixed those two ready for a re-test :)

I think all mot men must have a grudge against series's, your a tuff nut like me mr dawson werent you fooking about with yer landy in the snow the other year, I had to sweep the snow off the drive a couple of times before I could do owt to mine a few times.
The biggest pain is putting 100 notes in the tank and its onoly just full, and then it doesnt last that long.
Keep the rust rusting, I'll be returning someday with an old classic.

yup did the old 200tdi conversion in the snow, wet and cold. got down to -15 some evenings.

I can see why you've called it a day, but, i'm still young and got plenty left in me.

I've got a spitfire requiring some TLC if you want a different kind of classic to play around with ;)

Good luck with whatever you do with all that spare time now

Sad too hear you got rid of her.....

...please stay on forum. Over the years I have appreciated your help and experience, would be a effin crime if you gave up on us as well....

I'd second that, your experience and help has been great over the years

i found there is a great difference between getting it roadworthy and then having it ready for offroad use. Seems you can have dodgy axle flanges, gearbox ready to collapse, buggered this and that and you know what i mean..

Yup, quite probably, it is after all a 47 year old landy. However, it has been extensivly laned and off-roaded over the last 2 years as well as steadily improved and it is still running fine. Things will be maintained where possible and replaced where not and they do eventually fail. In the mean time it brings me a lot of joy and pleasure.

I have a disco axle waiting to go on the front which will resolve a lot of the issues as well :)

Thanks guys the nicest thing I've heard in a while.

I had a triumph, not a spitfire a 2000 mk2, bit of a rotbox and a head that warped if you looked at it wrong, but I kept it going for a couple of years.

I still see one of mi old minis knocking about, a '62 cooper, the same owner has it who bought it off me 15 years ago.
