Hi Guys,

There are some major savings to be had on the likes of brake fluid, oil etc if you open an account.
All you need is a business card which you can print yourself.

Discount is variable, but brake fluid for example is less than £5/ltr, and a set of their "professional quality" spanners is about half price.

Shop around, but once you have opened an account you can always ring for a quote.

Not according to the their web site, a business needs to showproof of trading recent bills and individuals to show pay slips and/or letter from their employer.

I have business cards and trading bills etc, but as I'm not in the motor trade there's no hope.

i am slightly tempted so on a sunday i can get stuff when the real trade places are closed (the real trade are only open til 1 on a saturday)

Some stuff like standard lightbulbs (not heavy duty or ultra bright type ones), exhaust repair bandage, batteries etc you get a good discount on. Other items like trailer board plugs/sockets you get feck all on.

I might go a couple of months without using mine and then I'll suddenly need it every day for a week. It does come in handy that Halfords are open late.

Might aswell. Just make sure that you don't use it to buy anything that's on special cos you'll have to pay full price. I had to get my ultra bright bulbs in one transaction cos they wuz on BOGOF and then a pair of 501 wedge bulbs using my trade card to get summit like 85% discount on em.

Just looked at Halfords site and it look like the rules have changed, business accounts are not required now and just as Wookie said, to quote Halfords:
NVQ or City & Guilds Motor Trade Qualification
Business card stating they have their own Mechanics Business.

So a lot easer now to get a card, but will they leave you alone or do they keep a check on you're spending and call to say it's not good enough as Makro use to.

Off to get a card printed, what shall I call my self .. G Man Recovery Services or Serviced by Ratty & Motor Traders.

I've never been winged at for not using my card enough and as I've said I will often go a long time without using it.

Ta for the replies which are pretty much what I expected and agree with, but there are savings to be made which is why I posted.

My local guy goes out of his way to find parts, halfords need your reg and if it doesn't come up on the system they are naf all use.
Good as he is though, I'm not paying twice the price for stuff.

0.8mm mig wire was less than £14 for 5kg a few weeks ago for example and no P&P, plus I bought a couple of tool cabinets for £50. Not worth the list price of £100, but a good buy at what I paid.

Its buyer beware as always, but I saved 25% on anti-freeze a couple of days ago, lost out on spark plugs for a Volvo C70 though, eurocarparts were way cheaper.

Yep it's a great tool I think. Halfords prices are way high but trade card makes them useable.

I get my 20w50 classic oil there, shelf 17.99 price 13.99, which is actually cheaper than I can get it ANYWHERE! It still works out dearer to get it in a 25 litre drum off a trade supplier.

It's also handy as above cos if I'm working late or weekends Halfords is often my only option for bits and pieces, and the card brings the price right down, I saved about 30% on a tube of gasket sealant once - I'd buy it there again rather than ringing round for it.

So yeah certainly worth having

that classic oil you use noisy, got the same in mine at mo for the same halfords reason but just rmember it has virtually no zinc in it which push rods engines like.

I added some wynns to try and make up for that untill my next change.

if you want true classic oil we sell some single weight oils at work...... we stock 30w in metal tins

If you want true classic oil .... classic car is over 25 years old I believe I have two 1 gallon cans of Duckhams Q and two of Castrol GTX in the garage only cost me 10/- (50p) so they must be worth a bit now don't you think.... they are a Classic

:hysterically_laughi nice one wishfull thinking again, but I won't be putting that on my card....Halfraurds would throw me out....I've place a order for my cards @ £3.80 p&p only, so we will see if I can get a trade card, I must remember to keep a straight face and not think about "G-Spot Servicing"

shouldnt give it to yu on a business card - should have a motoring certificate or a wage slip from your employer stating that you are a mechanic.
