I have a 2003 TD6 Vogue, which I’m considering breaking, but thought I’d offer it complete beforehand as I’d rather it be saved due to the amount of work it has had recently and how good it is apart from the issues.
It’s covered 130k-odd and I was using it daily until I noticed a brake fluid leak. When I went to investigate, I found it needed two new rear brake pipes, but whilst looking at this I removed the side steps as they were shot and I had already bought a pair from the newest model possible and had set about rustproofing them for the future.
However, removing these unveiled some nasty rot at the rear ends of the sills on both sides and into the rear arches. This was a bummer as after the last MOT I swapped both subframes out for rust-treated ones due to advisories on corrosion there (it was only surface anyway, but I like to future proof things). It also mentioned sills on there, but I thought it was really referring to the steps as they were badly rotten and the sills looked fine to me. In fact, the sills are very, very clean and solid all the way down to the rearmost 6 inches or so. The rest of the chassis is also remarkably clean and rust-free for one of these.
This was annoying as it was a fantastic example for the age. Super tidy interior, great colour scheme and top spec, and absolutely everything worked perfectly on it.
I had also only just had a full major service on it, including gearbox and diff oils, put four new Goodyear tyres on it (covered a couple of hundred miles at the very most) and a new top of the range Yuasa battery with a five year warranty and I’m sure there are other things I’ve forgotten. It has FSH and the engine is an absolute dream.
In parts, this has got to be worth £3500-£4000 I should think, but I’d rather avoid the hassle and I’d rather it be saved, but if anyone buys it they can do as they please.
The MOT expired last month. With the brake pipes sorted and the welding done it would pass. The rest is absolutely fine and the corrosion on the car is now confined to those nasty areas only.
I would need to see £2500 for this car and it would need trailering away (I could assist with that possibly).
I would be happy to sort the brake pipes at the cost of parts if anyone likes. I just don’t have the time to sort the welding at the moment with so many things going on.
I will give it a week and if there’s no interested I will start stripping it.
