IMO the oil seal as gone as there shouldn't be oil behind the swivel, only grease? As far as removing the stub axle you will probably need heat on it as the bolts should have loctite on them? I have done all mine recently and without heat they wouldn't budge plus you can't get a socket and...

I've just had to replace my front axle as the diff pan and radius arm bracket were shot I replaced the axle casing,all oil seals, bearings, gaskets and gave the axle a good coating of hammerite I think if your going to be that far in to anything you might as well do it properly ONCE Regards...
