Hey everyone.

Noticed my OS front axle seems to be leaking oil on the part where the axle meets the swivel hub assembly, seems to be dripping out from between where the two faces meet.

I assume this is just a simple gasket or seal?

Can anyone else confirm this could just be the gasket or are there other parts here that can cause this to leak in this area?

Would be looking to change it myself, looks a fairly simple task. I'm not a mechanic but am mechanical minded and like to do as much as I can myself am have the tools to do so.

Any help would be great, thanks.
Jamie.

ball to axle does have a gasket ftc3646 but silicone sealant would do ok ,just loosen bolts pull apart slightly clean oil off between and seal between both

IMO the oil seal as gone as there shouldn't be oil behind the swivel, only grease? As far as removing the stub axle you will probably need heat on it as the bolts should have loctite on them? I have done all mine recently and without heat they wouldn't budge plus you can't get a socket and breaker bar on the bolts only a multi ring spanner

Good luck and regards

Nick

If its leaking that bad the bolts may be loose anyway:)

A decent ring spanner will do the job, as James says, no need to take em out completely, just enough to clean up oil with brake cleaner or the like and reseal with silicone and tighten up:)

Will check bolts tomorrow.

Although the Oil is directly under the Swivel, it is defiantly leaking from the join, I can see the droplets on the bottom.

If and when I have to replace the gasket, could I just use a gasket seal on both sides of the gasket and then sealant around the edge of the face?

Just jacked it up and checked bolts. Most of them where all 3/4 of a turn loose with a few of them being over a turn loose. All tightened Up, let's see how it goes.

Just going to check level in front axle, full it to the middle drain hole right?

Just noticed I have lost an inch of coolant since weekend, have only done 50 miles so am loosing that somewhere.
