I've just had a similar problem with my 2.5TD which just turned out to be the petrol cap. The cap should rattle when you shake it. If it doesn't try replacing it. This is exactly what cured mine.

Have you looked behind the seats? In the corner between the door lock catch and the bulkhead. I can't remember if it will foul the reel seatbelt as I have harnesses, but I've just fitted some pod type speakers to the strengthener plate in those corners.
