My auto box has given up the ghost in reverse (clutch gone) I need a new (to me box) are all 4.6 p38 auto boxes the same? I have been offered one from a p reg with talk converter etc and hope it will fit my 4.6 y reg. many thanks for the advice

a mate of mine was looking to do this and asked a local landrover expert when i was there, he quoted around £500 - £600 for the fitting, so i would think a thousand should cover the fitting and any replacement part fitting etc that needs to be done.

I maybe mistaken but if your going to buy another why not insure this one till it sells then switch vehicles on the policy, i assume the only cost will be an admin one as they are similar landys. Not sure if this is aloud on a classic car policy but can't see why not.

I got mine off with a lot of wd40, heat and one of those spanners that tightens onto the nuts, then a normal wrench on top. Took some time but worked eventually! About an hour and a half
