Can anyone help get my old series running?

Hi everyone, I 'be had my series 2a for a couple of years. It was mot'ed with a new clutch by a mate but he couldn't get it running right. I just can't find anyone who knows how to properly set up the 2.25 petrol engine. The engine has a recon carb (solex) new leads plugs etc in the last year so...

    she's running strange

hello all, just put a reconditioned solex carb onto my series 2a 2.25 petrol engine. for some reason it does not seem to come with the bit to put the vacum hose into, I am presuming the problems I am having are because of this i.e. I can get it ticking over nicely etc but try taking it on a run...

    mot fail no screen washers

just had a search around and can see it's spot on abourt the spare tyres. But the few bits I've found about retro fitting belts suggests things like this:once you’ve fitted seatbelts they become subject to the relevant laws, they are MOT testable. I'm not saying it's right after all you can put...

    mot fail no screen washers

I bow to your superior knoweldge in this area. It seems MOT testers have different very different opinions when it comes to some parts of the MOT although I am sure they shouldn't. In my case it was alot less hassle to reach in the back and unscrew the spare wheel then spend time arguing, but...

    Fitting Paddocks Rear Bench Seats

i got a pair from ebay a couple of weeks ago for £40 including delivery they where a bit dirty, one small rip and needed some painting but have cleaned up well. Having said these I needed to chop them around a bit to fit around my lpg tank so I didn't want them in A1 condition and had a couple...

    mot fail no screen washers

My understanding is the same, i.e. if it's retro fitted it must be fit for purpose and in usable condition, this applies to all the above and I suppose seat belts in pre '65 land Rovers etc. Interestingly my old one failed an mot because the spare wheel had some gashes in, the tester advised me...

    Carpet decision

I did mine last weekend using rubber matting I got from M and M 4x4 luckily I had another landy apart so could easily draw round then cut the sections, it's worked brilliantly. Psychologically it also makes the old girl a lot quieter, but in reality...

every carb but which to choose?

At the moment I am doing this :doh::doh: My 2a is running a solex carb it looked a bit knackered with quiet a bit of silocone sealant around gasket areas so i thought I'd replace it and on advice ordered a weber. In the mean time I actually did some research  now I'm starting to...

    series as first car

go for it, I learned many years ago in a series 2a and it definetely makes you a better driver, well at least a safer one as you really must learn to 'drive' it. Not sure about insurance but you might want to consider if it would be more for a 2a without seat belts fitted. Mine doesn't have them...

    LPG or TDI?

i can only tell you my experiece of LPG which is that it works fantastically on my series 2a, power is the same as on petrol but it's a lot quieter on gas. As others have mentioned the lpg tank takes up some room in the back but it's never got in my way. I'm currently paying 72.9 per litre the...

    exhaust fitting recommendations

hello all, I need a new exhaust for my series 2a, m and m 4x4 are just down the road from me and do the full kit for about £60 quid but after several weekends getting dirty and no time I wanted to get it fitted by a garage trouble is M and M's say it might be 40 quid could be more depending on...

    LPG or TDI?

a mate of mine was looking to do this and asked a local landrover expert when i was there, he quoted around £500 - £600 for the fitting, so i would think a thousand should cover the fitting and any replacement part fitting etc that needs to be done.

    Short/cheap insurance policy for '83 S3 MOD?

I maybe mistaken but if your going to buy another why not insure this one till it sells then switch vehicles on the policy, i assume the only cost will be an admin one as they are similar landys. Not sure if this is aloud on a classic car policy but can't see why not.

    front bumper removal

I got mine off with a lot of wd40, heat and one of those spanners that tightens onto the nuts, then a normal wrench on top. Took some time but worked eventually! About an hour and a half

    original seat specification?

I've got two sets of seats for my 2a, one set are totally flat on the seat backs and the others have raised side supports. Can anyone tell me if both where available in 65 when mine was built or if not which where original I presume the flat backed ones.

    it all sounded so simple!!!

Not sure if anyone can help with this mess but all advice would be appreciated. On saturday at about 3 I had a working land rover, but 5 I did not, and it was all my own doing. I decided to change the distributor and fit an electronic ignition thingy, rather than points, so I now have to redo...
