she's running strange

hello all,
just put a reconditioned solex carb onto my series 2a 2.25 petrol engine. for some reason it does not seem to come with the bit to put the vacum hose into, I am presuming the problems I am having are because of this i.e. I can get it ticking over nicely etc but try taking it on a run and the power goes and you have to pull the choke out etc. Would fitting an electroic ignition solve the problem? the new carb does seem to have a male connector that again wasn't on the old one. sorry if this is a bit vague, I'd like to say I've only just got her but in reality I am a really slow learner!

just try and put the vacuume hose into the air intake hose just above the carb if this improves the running find a way to make that connection permanent
