How many miles does your do a year??

The 127" does 2-3,000 km on asphalt, 10-15,000 on trails, 1000-1500 hours offroad. Reliably unreliable, but easy to fix. Crew can straighten a bent tie-rod in 5 minutes flat, almost without stopping the car, make a bush out of an old tyre, change the clutch under an acacia tree, and more or...

    Heart transplant... TD27

Don't know if it's a known conversion or not. Got the engine out of a converted 90, but had to make a new gearbox adapter (the original one was a locally made contraption, badly off-center). The 200 got a cracked head, and the LT77 was in tatters. Rebuilt a R380 and scrapped the 200. The...

In it goes: Nissan lump. Will see how it performs out there...

    Rattling Noise

As long as it rattles, it's still there. If it goes quiet and everything still works fine and you can stop the car when you want, then that was nothing to worry about. General Land Rover diagnostic procedure. :D:D:D

    110 suspension am I mad.

Contrary to much of the parts they sell, their springs seem to be doing a good job, especially considering that (at last here...) they sell for a third of the price of OEM ones.

    Bellhousing PCD, bolt pattern dimensions

I am installing a R380 gearbox on a TD27 Nissan engine, with an adapter that was poorly manufactured and is off-center by 0.7mm. I need to position the locating dowels, and it's quite a task to get proper measurements from parts that have seen better days... Does anyone have the PCD/BCD for...

Nissan QD32 transplant, anyone done that?

The head gasket on my 127's 200TDi blew, and I'm grabbing this opportunity to change the ticker in the old lady. Got a Nissan TD27 engine and conversion kit available, but the 2.7 would probably be short of breath for the job at hand (daily runs in the bush with anything from 500kg to 1,300kg...

    LT230 ratio, Serial 21D?

Mystery solved... I had the wrong gear. The right one is 28 teeth, not 26, then the math works out.

    LT230 ratio, Serial 21D?

Thanks, useful info! That one has high gear teeth reaching middle of the intermediate, which would indicate 1.41 (what I thought to start with...). I made calculations on another case that I have open, serial 28D meaning 1.22. Gear on gearbox output shaft is 26 teeth, both intermediate and high...

    LT230 ratio, Serial 21D?

Does anyone have an idea of the ratio on a LT230 with serial starting 21D? It's not on Ashcroft's list, and can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

    RR (Rolls Royce)/Citroen suspensions conversion

That's the spirit...! In too many systems there are complications that can turn a good idea into a nightmare, but with common sense and out-of-the-box thinking, one can find solutions. Saying "Can't" never got humanity one inch further along the road. Easye1, what else did you come up with?

    RR (Rolls Royce)/Citroen suspensions conversion

EAS is totally unsuited to work in the real bush, but it IS bloody comfortable. Citroen suspensions are much more reliable than EAS, and if you have a burst sphere/accumulator you can change it in a matter of minutes anywhere you are. Mercedes, Rolls, and many others have used them, and these...

    RR (Rolls Royce)/Citroen suspensions conversion

Anybody ever converted a Range Rover, Disco, or any other Landy to hydropneumatic suspensions as fitted on Rolls Royce and Citroen? Seems to me that if properly done, it would beat the crap out of both EAS and coils...

Land Rover field report (and rant)

Thanks for all the kind advice regarding preventive maintenance, and light-footedness on the pedal... I'll take note. :D But the car was rebuilt and thoroughly checked (including the bloody bushings, who self-destructed in no time as soon as they started going bad), it's a low-mileage chassis...

Land Rover field report (and rant)

Yesterday I added some figures regarding my main vehicles. And got to a saddening conclusion. Land Rover: used on 6 full Safaris (2000+ km each, 30-40% of it off-road across the bush) Total approx. 13,000 km from March 2010 (1986 built, unknown mileage on 200TDi bought used from the UK) Total...

    Gear selection

Older ZF boxes, if you want to do any serious offroading you better put a very serious tranny oil cooler. Only way to keep the box in shape, high oil temps kill them in no time and the silly pipe running in front of the rad is as good as no oil cooler at all. But in our nick of the woods almost...

Fishing and Rough Camping with a Landy

Probably a bit far for you, but we've got lekker fishing spots around here... White waters, Tiger fish, 100lbs Nile perch, 15ft crocs, and the closest road is 100km away. Campfires just feel better. More and more South Africans too, seems that they've seen the writing on the wall :D
