Whats better for off roading then a amnual or an auto??

Older ZF boxes, if you want to do any serious offroading you better put a very serious tranny oil cooler. Only way to keep the box in shape, high oil temps kill them in no time and the silly pipe running in front of the rad is as good as no oil cooler at all.

But in our nick of the woods almost everybody runs manual, unless he's a mechanic and knows how to set up his rig.

I don't know about newer LRs, nobody takes them to the bush here. There is probably a reason... :D

only advice worth mentoning here i can give is to join a club that holds trial events in your area an association of rover owners one would be superb as it keeps costs down and more chance of keeping your mota in good nick. Be wary of "experts" follow the old boys who have been trialling for years in old series motors instead of the knocked up rangies and discos as they have probably been doing it donkeys years.

Gear selection difflock selection (always in offroad unless trying some tricks) and tyre suspension setup are all king. Stiff suspension motors with "lift kits" the type that give no rating when purchased or owners that do not know what rating they are hit obstacles harder as they do not have the flexability of making it look easy driven slowly. The same goes for heavy motors they hit obstacles harder to get over them. Watch some videos and you will see what i mean. It looks amateurish the slowwell setup motors are the ones to watch.

I think you need a few more coffee's & then re-post your last thread mate..

Half either dont make sense, or contradict themselves chap.! the topic is about comparison between auto or manual for offroading, what landy does he currently have? engine size? mods? advising to join a local club in my opinion isnt going to give him much use.. Plus you then advise to follow the old boys who have been doing it years, then you say instead of the knocked up rangies and discos as they have probably been doing it donkeys years.?? not quite sure what you mean here?? then you mention about suspension?? thought this was about gearboxes??

what a load of bo--cks

Actually, I think you'll find you've hit the nail on the head there.:D

I don't like auto boxes, mostly from sports car driving.:p Don't like auto boxes in Landies, cause they confuse me:eek:, therfore I don't trust them. Any other comment should be disregarded;), unless you have an unfounded dislike of auto boxes to, in which case, regard away:D

IMO i dont think it matters, as long as you know how to drive the car and how it behaves you can get them anywhere. but i dont claim to be an expert so open to correction, just my theory lol. each have pros and cons, its just personal preferance i think and i prefer manual ha :D
